If you paid a fee of $30 then:

a. You are doing something wrong.
b. Your wallet is doing something wrong.

Yesterday I received a payment with a fee of 160 sat/byte (~$5 for a normal transaction with 1 input and 2 outputs) and it got confirmed in a few hours.

And if you really have done this, why have you asked someone to accelerate a transaction that costed $1.58 some time ago, and now are sending a transaction with a $30 fee?

Agreed, that is crazy to pay that much in fee's. The exchanges are getting a little out of hand as well.

It won't. Read what I said above. I got a payment confirmed in a few hours with a 160 sat/byte fee.

Don't bindly use the highest fee available in your wallet.
