Assuming I am out of warranty, is it possible to run the antminer s9 with the two outer hashboards while I send the cebter one out for repair(or to sell) because I would't like to forgoe the cool 0.01 BTC it is generating every six days while I have the board fixed or sold.
I am using the apw3++ PSU
Thank You. Feel free to pm if youve had similar troubles so we can see what each did to fix the problem... Or better yet just reply this thread

Probably. Just watch the temps on the other two, meantime what's wrong with it?

I have one of the newer 13.5 TH/s models.  My left hand board was shorting out my PSU, but the other 2 worked fine (as long as the first one wasn't connected to the PSU.)  I pulled it and am running the other 2 boards right now at 8.9 TH/s  so you can definitely run it on just 2 hash boards.

The air flow is messed up with the board out (air follows the path of least resistance), and as a result the chips are running about 3 - 5 degrees warmer (at 67 and 71 as we speak), but still well under the danger zone.  I've had conversations via email with bitmainwarranty.com in Colorado.  They stated that repairs/replacements are usually $150 - $200 and the board goes out today.  I'll keep you posted with what they find and what they do to fix it (or not).

For those of you still following my saga... here is an update!

The board was repaired by bitmainwarranty.com and has been shipped back to me.  The total cost for repairs and return shipping was exactly $200, which I could pay using paypal or crypto through coinbase.  While they never disclosed to me what was wrong with it, they responded very promptly to all of my emails, updating me with (paraphrased)

"we have received it"
"the tech is running diagnostics now"
"the tech believes it can be repaired"
"the tech has repaired it, please pay the invoice"

They shipped it out the same day I paid.

The entire process from me shipping out to having it back in hand took about a month, but Christmas and New Years undoubtedly slowed things down.  It is expected to be delivered today and I'll throw it in tonight and see what happens.  I am pretty confident that it will work, but I'll post one final time with the results.

In the meantime, I have been hashing away with just 2 boards at around 9 TH/s which has mined 0.037 BTC while awaiting the repairs.  The warranty is shot on the rig, since I opened it up to send the board, but in the long run I think I have made out ahead.

Thanks to all those who commented and helped along the way!  I'll post one more time after I get the board back in!

My first damageed board repair was a shorting of the power supply. I had to replace the blown(shorted) MOSFETs, worked like a charm. Now I just need to finish figuring out these buck converter controllers, doesn't help that the new S9 use a different configuration( and a completely different converter).
