Bulgaria is by far the hottest country in cryptocurrency news last weekend. Last week, Bulgarian banks closed cryptocurrency accounts in the county’s exchanges. To their surprise however, the Government also realized they own around $3 billion worth of BTCs seized earlier this year during an organized crime sting.

Bulgarian bitcoin forums announced December 7th that their accounts were blocked. One of the moderators remarked that he expected it would happen sooner or later, but he did not suspect that the panic in the financial sector was so great.

The move was not a result of legal regulation, but an independent decision by the bank’s authorities. Bulgarian exchanges affected by this decision are Cix.bg, Crypto.bg and Cryptobank.bg. The latter is still operational, but only accepts payments through cryptocurrency portfolios. Bulgaria is the only country where the banking sector has directly attacked digital currency exchanges.

Once a transaction has 6 confirmations, it is extremely unlikely that an attacker without at least 50% of the network's computation power would be able to reverse it.

As an ethnic Bulgarian i`m very proud that my country has now such a bit amount of Bitcoin`s. Bulgaria is the most poor country in Euro Union with a minimum salary of 235 Euro/month. Most of my friends work in Germany and Great Britain, doing low-status occupations.
If I was the Government, I'd not sell this sized Bitcoins on auctions, better to hold it as a national bank reserve, for future generations.
