MinerGate xFast – mining engine updated

Dear miners,

We are glad to introduce the Beta version of MinerGate xFast CLI Miner, which underwent a serious upgrade to provide higher performance to MinerGate users.

Updated mining engine is the next step forward to provide our users with the best possible mining experience, promoting its future mass adoption. With this improved codebase, we aim to exceed the current benchmarks of computation speed for MinerGate’s clients’ devices. Combined with existing MinerGate Pro merged mining pool for ASIC miners, this new updated engine provides users with an ultimately increased hashrates.

For the updated mining codebase, MinerGate’s internal benchmarks have indicated the following performance improvements:

Up to 20% higher hashrate for CryptoNote/CryptoNight-based coins (XMR, XMO, BCN, FCN, XDN, AEON) compared to the open-source solutions*;
Up to 100% higher hashrate for CryptoNight-based coins (XMO, BCN, FCN) mining on legacy hardware compared to our previous version.
We are pleased to invite you to test the Beta-version of MinerGate’s updated mining engine and enjoy the new mining experience with higher performance. This testing period is also an opportunity for you to contribute to the stability of MinerGate xFast and speed up the further developments. Feel free to share your feedback in our blog and on the forum.

A Beta version of the updated xFast Mining Engine is currently available only for CLI Mining software. After all tests, with the next version’s release, we will provide you with a more easy-to-use GUI mining solution.

Our support service is ready to help you in case any questions appear. Feel free to contact us 24/7 – support@minergate.com

Stablecoins: what are they and what perspectives they have?

Cryptocurrencies, as we all know, are not secured with some stable assets, however, they’ve got a value and an exchange rate against the U.S. Dollar, which is accepted as a worldwide common currency. That makes them volatile and inconvenient for daily transactions. The adoption of stablecoins comes up as a necessity as the decentralized economy becomes mainstream.

Scrabble is finally OK with Bitcoin

A recent update of Merriam-Webster's "Official Scrabble Players Dictionary" includes 300 new words and now contains words like "emoji", "facepalm" and finally adds a widely used two-letter word that Scrabble fans have been waiting to use for decades: "OK".

This update shows that Scrabble is evolving alongside the English language. It also shows that cryptocurrencies are steadily becoming an important part of common people’s life as a word "bitcoin" is now also included in a dictionary of the worldwide popular game with a huge fan base, which gatherers tournaments all over the world.

Obviously, the modernization of Scrabble’s lexicon couldn’t happen without including the "Bitcoin" word. "Blockchain" and "cryptocurrency" are not the words for the future anymore as soon as cryptocurrencies increasingly affect the lives of ordinary people, being an integral part of the modern financial sector, IT and science.

Crypto Opportunities for Developing Countries

One of the latest trends for cryptocurrency and blockchain developers is making projects aimed at so-called developing countries. Limited access to the traditional banking system makes these markets favourable for the further development of various blockchain projects, which could improve conditions of life for many people there.

Summing up MinerGate’s project ‘I am a Miner’. Best stories. Part 1

MinerGate has recently started a new massive project “I am a miner” dedicated exclusively to MinerGate’s miners. The project is about to shed more light on the lives of miners all over the world, specifically on their environment, wishes, goals, and dreams. Unfortunately, it is often the case that these people who carry the weight of blockchain on their equipment’s “shoulders” are forgotten or even mistreated. Traders and cryptoanalysts love to put themselves in a public eye, getting more and more attention. “I am a miner” was created to stop this outrageous favoritism. Altogether, we’ll remind everybody that miners play the most essential part in the crypto community and that they should be heard and respected.
MinerGate collected some of the most touching and sincere stories and now you’ll see them yourselves.

MinerGate is going to support Monero (XMR) hard fork

Dear miners,

MinerGate team is glad to inform you that we intend to support the upcoming hard fork of the Monero (XMR) network. Scheduled on the block height of 1685555, the approximate date of the network update is October 18, 2018.

There are three major changes in the Monero protocol:

1. A new form of range proofs, called Bulletproof, replacing old Borromean range proofs and significantly reducing both transactions size and fees (by approximately 80%);
2. A PoW tweak to be implemented to curb any potential threat of ASICs and further preserve ASIC resistance;
3. The minimum ring size of the ring signature is increased to 11 and will be static/fixed from now on.

The MinerGate team is ready to support these changes, like it was with the previous Monero (XMR) hard fork in April 2018. To continue mining XMR with MinerGate Monero mining pool on the newly updated blockchain, you will need to update your stable version of the mining software (not xFast Beta yet). The goal of our team is to provide users with a solid working solution to continue mining Monero after the fork, and the new XMR mining will be supported on the xFast versions soon.

#iamaminer. Rules of the flashmob.

Our flashmob is dedicated to the miners, the people who scaffold the whole crypto industry. These days it seems the prevailing opinion regarding the mining industry is that the trader is king of the hill and the miner is just a kitchen boy. We want to show how wrong that is! Thousands of mining enthusiasts aren’t even concerned with profit, they do it out of a sincere belief in the technology and its usefulness to the world. MinerGate believes that these people are the unseen heroes of the crypto world and it is time for them to get their much deserved recognition.

Recently we took a poll, asking people about their mining experience, how they got started, and their aspirations. We’ve received several hundreds of emails in the first week, and this result inspired us to do a huge digital flashmob to let the miners around the world tell their stories.

To mine or not to mine: how to react to new crypto coins

Firstly, please note that this post is not intended as financial advice and one should always try to do their own research before making any final decisions. Investing in Cryptocurrencies and Initial Coin Offerings (ICO’s) can be speculative, and the market is quite unregulated.

MinerGate changes the supported Monero fork

For a long time, the MinerGate pool was supportive of the Monero Original cryptocurrency. However, the MinerGate team recently decided to move its support from Monero Original to Monero-Classic.

The Monero’s fork, that happened on April 6, 2018, and was intended to protect its ASIC-resistance, caused a large controversy amongst blockchain analysts, investors, and cryptocurrency developers. Some of them supported the decision, and some condemned it. However, the update happened and led to the establishment of the four new coins.
