I'm really just trying to fund my bittrex account but there's no way to do it directly. So I have been researching for the past couple of days where to buy bitcoins safely for california residents.

I am all maxed out on my coinbase limits, and gemini will apparently take 3 days to verify me + they have limits too. Is there a place where you can recommend to safely buy?

Thanks for any help in advance!

You say "safely": nothink is safest than an exchanger for big amounts.  I suggest you to wait till you will became fully verified on a good exchanger. No try other way. If you think Bitcoin will have some movement in next hours-days, i suggest you to try margin trade (and go leverage).

true nothing is really safe I'm aware, I guess what I meant is.. what are other good exchanges besides bitcoin and gemini to buy bitcoin or altcoins with USD. Even if it takes some time to verify but that would allow higher limits.

Your place of reside will determine the best exchange where you can get the require amount of bitcoin but if you're from UK bitstamp, cex yovit etc are good for youm Asia bitfinex, bithumb, bitflyer, zebpay etc. America/Aussie btcmarkets, gdax, paxful, bittrex etc. Africa luno, bitmex.golix etc.

You need to use a exchange or buy from any friend that you trust. I sugest a exchange from your country.
You must verified your account before deposit or you cant withdraw your bitcoins.

And put it in a safe wallet, you can generate a safe paper wallet from a offline live linux.

Coinbase is decent. You have to get verified to transfer more money though.

At first I was buying bitcoin on localbitcoin.com because the escrow there seems pretty safe. The fund won't be released till you don't received and press release fund. But only bad thing are that sellers take pretty high fee + if you need send on your wallet or market then you will pay fees for that too. Last time I bought direct on Coinbase, so I get higher amount because I didn't lose soo much on transaction fee.

Localbitcoin is safe because act as escrow, but is better to stay away from it because lot of localbitcoin seller/buyers are involved in money laundering and other illegal activities.

If you really want to buy bitcoin at this price I suggest to you to use bitstamp , because in my opinion is the safest exchange out there. There are some other ways , better check yourself.

the problem of crypto exchanger is the poor number of legislation of the governments so basically every crypto investor is risking his capital if is on a exchanger. I suggest to separate the 50k on a small number of well-know of exchanger ans withdraw on a wallet.

Well, there is so safe exchange in large amounts. Many bitcoin users having large amount in their balances in bitcoin are scam. They tend to salestalk you and attract you because of their balance in Bitcoin and after you pay, they wont response you anymore. But there are some people that are legitimate. But you, as a person whos wanted to exchange your large money into Bitcoin. I will suggest that find some people in social media and here in forum whos selling bitcoins then you and he/she will meet up upon transaction. That's the safest thing to do.

If the safest way for you to use in buying such a huge amount of bitcoin is time consuming, then the time it takes to confirm/make the transaction successful should not be a problem.

Here in my country we have a cellphone application for buying bitcoins and there is a cash in button for that so that your fiat will be in your php wallet and you can convert it to bitcoin. That's the coins.ph app.

besides coinbase, are you also using GDAX?  higher initial limits and you can login with your coinbase info.      Worst case, you could also search for a local bitcoin atm if you are willing to pay the fees.

It would depend on which exchanger is available in your area. Huge exchanges in bitcoin would always be very risky. Make sure to double check your options.
