Where do the suppliers get their currency from?

As being in the crypto market for almost a month now. I have bought BTC and a few other currencies like LTC straight up from various sources. some sources that are just as merchandise to buy bitcoin from? not an exchange.

i am curious as to how or what methods they use to get their bitcoin and other currency from?

do they get it from exchanging?
