How do I find out where my two Ethers are?

40 days ago I bought about 2 Ether and had them transferred to the address 0x15Cb570d5Bdc88641872C9D129225605DFc56104, which was generated by my Ledger Nano S. When I checked today in the Ledger Ether App there was zero Ether in it. I checked with MEW, but there it was also zero. I checked the address on Etherscan and there I saw the 2 Ether were moved to this address. Might I have done something wrong here? How do I find out where my 2 Ethers are? Or better still, how do I get them to show up in my wallet?

It seems to me that if you go directly to your MEW purse, you will unconditionally find your ethers there intact. If their presence is seen in the Ethplorer, then they are in your wallet, and not anywhere else.

Do not worry, check your wallet again. They will be in the wallet.

Thank you for your answers, Samolet and Alexarik! But I do start to worry that something may have gone wrong, or that I may have done something wrong when I bought the Ether.

After updating the firmware of my Ledger (a tip I got from another post) I just looked at my wallet with the Ledger app again, and also with that tab 'Send Ether & Tokens' in MEW, but both keep saying my balance is zero Ether. And Etherscan still says that 1.97 Ether were sent to address 0x15Cb570d5Bdc88641872C9D129225605DFc56104 42 days ago. Here's what it looks like now:

- I see the purchase of 1.97 Ether in my transaction history of BTCDirect.com with above address
- on Etherscan I see that the transaction was performed in blockchain 4479071
- my Ledger wallet looks like it has a balance of zero, both through the Ledger App and MEW

I can't exactly remember my actions 42 days ago, but I think that for buying the Ethers I took the same steps with my Ledger that I took for the Bitcoins I bought before. But I may have done something wrong. If so, what could that have been, and is there a way to repair that?

if you do not have one of those keys, you will not be able to access your wallet.

Are you saying you see 0 ETH, when you input 0x15cb570d5bdc88641872c9d129225605dfc56104 in MEW?
Or when you try to use MEW with you Ledger Wallet?

So I guess that's bad, I'm pretty convinced now that I lost these two Ether.

My problem now is: I have no idea what went wrong or what I did wrong, so I'm scared to do another Ether transaction now. Before I bought my first Ethers I did 4 Bitcoin transactions with the same Ledger Nano S and with the same broker that all went well. I think I took the same steps for the Ether transaction, with the Ledger Ether app instead of the Bitcoin app. I entered the address with copy/paste to be sure I got the correct address, but somehow this went terribly wrong and now I lost almost two Ether.

So what do you guys think could have gone wrong? I hope to find out what it was so that I don't make that mistake again in the future.

Are you accessing the correct address?
I see 0x6482E86ee216009CFf6EE561e24CA95a03db02Db in your picture.
While you have problem with 0x15Cb570d5Bdc88641872C9D129225605DFc56104

Anyway, as long as Etherscan.io shows there is a balance,I wouldn't worry too much. Probably some network sync problem with Ledger.

You can also try to type chrome://apps/ in chrome, then reset application data.

If you still have problems after the reset, seems like a bug or sync issue on Ledger's side.

40 days is a long time and you might have just forgotten that you sent the funds to a different address other than the one you have provided here??

Or you could check from the holding address that received the ether before sending it out to try and track where your eth was sent, good luck

I just noticed something when I looked at the transaction again. When I log in to my Ledger Ethereum wallet I have to choose between 'ETC Ethereum classic' and 'ETH Ethereum'. That address 0x15cb570d5bdc88641872c9d129225605dfc56104 is of the 'ETC Ethereum classic' side. That 0x6482E86ee216009CFf6EE561e24CA95a03db02Db that MEW shows is the address of the ETH side.

What I now think happened is that I bought 1.97 ETH, and had them send to the ETC address. Could that have been the mistake, and more importantly, is that something that can be repaired? 0x15cb570d5bdc88641872c9d129225605dfc56104 does show the 1.97 Ether on Etherscan, so it received something.

Yes, ETH sent to ETC or vice versa can be recovered, both are using the same private key.
This may possibly be the problem.

first and formost does it have a private keys.... if it has then we can say it is easy to recover it. but i m shocked saying you sent some ether to it and today it is missing, which account were they moved to?, maybe can we trace the account were it was moved to, since you said it was generated by your ledger Nano S.
sometimes i m afraid of using any external account which was not generated by MEW because it is easy to handle as simple as that. all i have to say use a genuine account that also have a private keys sothat in any error you can quickly rectifies it.

Kahc, your suggestion worked! By using MyEtherWallet I was able to move my almost 2 Ethers from the ETC to the ETH wallet, and now I can finally see them in the Ledger app. Thank you very much for staying with this problem until it was solved.

I am very happy to have them back, but at the same time this episode leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth:
- Ok, I am a newbie to crypto currency, but I consider myself pretty handy with computers and modern gadgets like the Ledger Nano S
- I took my time to find out how things worked with the Ledger and a crypto currency broker
- I made a mistake in chosing the type of walet I wanted to use for Ethereum
- It took me weeks to find out what went wrong and only with help of a forum member was I able to solve it. Ledger hasn't come back with anything after 10 days, nor the broker

I'm sure there must be many people out there who made a similar mistake, but weren't able to find the solution to get their coins  back. Makes me sad, and it makes me very skeptical about crypto currency in general.
