Avalon 741 suddenly isn't seen by controller

Hi,

A friend of mine just bought two Avalon 741's along with a Raspberry Pi and PSU. They were bought from an official redistributor.

They're connected in a small "chain", as in Controller > AUC3 > Miner > Miner. They've been working for two days but today I rebooted them remotely. The miners never came back on.

The controller can't find any devices. The controller itself seems to work just fine though, settings are saved etc. It just can't find any of the miners connected.

This is what we've tried:
Cutting and restoring power to the PSU's and controller.
Changing all the cables.
Changing PSU.
Changing AUC3.
Connecting only one miner (tried both on their own).
Flashing new firmware (not Controller firmware because he doesn't have a card reader).
Restoring settings from my backup.

Light on AUC3 is green and blue, and light on both miners are green. We live in Sweden so we're using 220V.

Any ideas are appreciated! Thank you!

Hey, I have a very similar problem. Have you been able to figure it out? My miner worked just fine for 4 days and suddenly stopped earlier ago when my internet connexion dropped. I've tried rebooting, reflashing and I get the exact same error.

The light on the miners themselves should be blue. I am not sure why you are saying they are green.

The light on the AUC should be blue if there is nothing connected and green if it is in communication with the miners themselves.

Does the controller see the AUC itself? In the config status pages there is a middle section that shows the AUC and the bottom section shows the actual miners.

Thank you fanatic26. I am not sure what happened but I know now that I simply lost connection to my modem. Nothing I tried to do after that helped me restart mining and the controller wouldn't see the miner. So I wiped the controller x2 (the first time I did it, it didn't work), flashed the img and voila. Back up and mining!

I had that problem and I found it was power sequencing with multiple PSUs.  Green means the miner is alive but it is not being controlled by the host.  Once the host finds the miner, the led on the avalon will go blue.

My issue was powering up the controller slightly before the miner.  Try unplugging/replugging the controller, or maybe even a software reboot through ssh.  It should then find the devices.

In my case, I learned to flip the power supplies for the miner boxes just before I flipped the supply for the controller.  Waiting a long time between power up sequence also didn't work.  Really, I felt it was touchier that it should have been so I was happy to place it in hosting where everything (including the pi) could run from one PSU on 220V.  Having everything on one PSU always works for me.

This doesnt make sense as the controllers are internal to the miner and power up when you power the hash boards. They cannot be powered up separately without disassembling the miner.

I am referring to the pi/auc3 as the controller as is OP if you read his context.  It might not be the proper term, but for our small discussion here it's probably fine.


OP, you might as well buy a microsd reader and reload the firmware.  That seems to be the only thing you haven't tried.  I ruined one pi's firmware by being clever and changing the hostname (in hosts file and in the web interface).  It didn't mine afterwards, and just changing it back did not cure it.  Rewriting the firmware did work.

This would be a long shot but the only time I saw an error similar to that was because I had input pool information wrong.

I'm sure it's been covered but are you sure all pool information and worker information came back on?
