"In a nutshell, the network works like a distributed timestamp server, stamping the first transaction to spend a coin. It takes advantage of the nature of information being easy to spread but hard to stifle." -- Satoshi

What are you referring to exactly?

Some coin offered by the Federal Reserve? I don't think this will happen.

If it does, most won't trust it because the Fed can simply print unlimited amounts of this coin and dilute the value. Just like the US dollar.

If the federal reserve would make their own altcoin, i don't see a lot of people would be  interested in owning it, since bitcoin is already there and there are a lot of altcoins that has a high potential for gains. I doubt they will have any impact in the market, and doing so might just make their fiat loose it value, since they will focus on two currencies, in a way making one obsolete, since there is a creation of another, unlike altcoins, they come from different ICOs with different algorithms, and they should also consider, people will be confused on which currency will they be supporting, if it is going to be the fiat of cryptocurrency, since they support a lot of banks.
