SOLD OUT

In the tradition of Mjbmonetarymetals' 1 gram .999 fine silver "bitcoin" design rounds I've created my own 1 gram silver coin.

I present to you, my 1 gram silver round that I call, THE GENESIS BLOCK!

It's to commemorate the first Bitcoin block mined by Satoshi on the 3rd of January 2009.  The Bitcoin address on the back is the address it was paid into, the most significant event in Bitcoin History!

The quality of these coins is just fantastic!  The mint I used did a very very good job indeed!

I'm releasing this to coincide with the opening of The Bitcoin Museum

Prices...
Please note that the BTC price displayed and the price at checkout may be a little different.  This is because I use a Gox Plugin to convert display prices, and bitpay uses Coinbase as their sales price.
Pay with BITPAY, Your MtGox Account or PAYPAL

The coins can be purchased here.
Postage is $6 flat rate International.  Parcels will be sent Standard post.

Now, for a competition...
The first person to post here the significance of the bitcoin address on the 2nd side I'll send you a coin for free!

Until I take a picture, you could use the image made from the 1st 1g Silver round thread.  That'll give you a better idea of dimensions.

This thread was started on my birthday...not bad!

The significance of the BTC address printed on the back of these coins is that it is guaranteed to be the first bitcoin address ever created, and as such, that BTC address claims the firstbits of "1", the rarest firstbits that can be acquired:

http://blockchain.info/fb/1

It also shows that satoshi did not plan entirely to make a quick buck off of Bitcoin, as he did not code the genesis block address to let him access the 50 coins mined.

Finally, the address has been used as a hub for appreciative bitcoiners to send donations to the address, despite it not being controllable. Smiley

Yes, I know the competition has ended, but I thought I'd put a little more detail up. Tongue

BA Computer Science, University of Oxford
Dissertation was about threat modelling on distributed ledgers.

I knew that there were some donations, but how do you know for sure that Satoshi can't acces the funds?

I don't know the technical details that well myself, but it has to do with the way the blockchain works. The private key can be sold or traded or even shared, but funds from block #1 can never be spent.

Hey guys, only 654 LEFT!

These have sold quite well.  I've only got just over half of the original minting left. This is LIMITED EDITION and this series WILL NEVER BE PRINTED AGAIN.

Once I've sold all 1000 I will use the money to create a different coin.

So...get in while you still can!
