Hello all

I followed a link from one of the main, 'deepweb' links lists on Tor to a site called SamsungStore.

It was listed with all the legit sites like Silk Road, Sheep, Blackmarket Reloaded  etc.

I contacted the guy about stock on samsungstore@tormail.org and he didnt have what I wanted but had something similar. I sent a few emails back and forth getting the specs right and ended up sending about $300 in BTC. It all seemed legit - why say he didnt have what i wanted if he was a scammer? etc

Anyway. Now not heard from him for nearly two days.. He confirmed receipt of the funds and said he would contact me  when the items were going to be shipped..

Have I been scammed or is he just slow at shipping goods?

Opinions please - and feedback on seller much apreciated....

I certainly hope that all goes well for you.

I would definitely recommend using an escrow service (John K) if possible for those types of transactions.  If they refuse to use escrow, I would avoid them.

Actually, that's a pretty standard trick: the scammer wants you to think his supply is very limited, and he might run out completely if you don't buy right away. It's a tactic meant to discourage you from "wasting time" looking for more reputable vendors or reading reviews etc.

Of course, it's always possible this guy is legit, but I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you.

Being a total newb - im not sure what Escrow is or how to tell if I used it. I presume its some kind of middleman who holds the funds for both parties until buyer is happy - then releases. Which would be a great idea if I had known there were these kinds of services out there.

I purchased the bitcoins through a vendor on localbitcoins.com, who have always been extremely good. I transfered the payment to samsungstore from my balance on localbitcoins.com which keeps a virtual wallet for you.

Could I approach them for help? Or try and insist they investigate? Or do i not really have a leg to stand on?

There is nothing they can do.  It doesn't matter where your wallet is (even your own wallet) Bitcoin is designed to be irreversible.

Imagine you handed a stranger with no name, address, or ID, a bag of cash with $300 USD inside and he said "wait right here I will be back in a couple days with your phone", two days pass and the guy hasn't shown up.  How would you reverse this transaction?

Sorry for you to learn the hard way, but in the future before clicking [Send] ask yourself "do I trust this person and know enough about them that I would hand them a bag of cash and know they would delivery?"  If the answer is no then don't send your coins.  It is the EXACT same thing.

If you didn't use escrow then you've probably been scammed, if someone involved in a transaction doesn't know you and doesn't demand escrow then that should send up all kinds of warnings, even though I'd be perfectly happy selling my stuff without escrow I'm not naive and I know there would be people out there who would love to score some free silver/gemstones even if they aren't worth all that much yet so doing escrow benefits both the seller and the buyer in this situation.

Ok everyone. Well thanks for your help.

I should have spent a bit of time learning about these factors before I jumped strait in. I had no idea  that Bitcoins couldnt be reversed or traced - I read an article that claimed that each coin was basically a unique code and was easily identifiable- I presumed it would be easy to get a refund due to this fact. Obviously I misunderstood the article or it was a load of horsesh1t.

I guess the next thing to do then is to report the site as a scam:

I actually chose this site because all items preported to come with an international warranty. I was trying to stay clear of stolen blackmarket goods, I just wanted a deal.

In the UK all our goods, electronics through to cars are sold at a rediculous premium compared to the USA and other countries. Take for example a European, Mercedes C63 AMG - Yours in the US brand new for $59,000. Oh, but what do Mercedes decide to charge us in the UK? Oddly £58,000.

Sound fair? well if you have no concept of exchange rates it might, but if you do know the value of the pound then you will know that £58,000 is more like $90,000!

Its a similar story whatever product it is - the only exception being american made goods which are sold even cheaper in the US vs UK. I remember seeing an article about one of the new style american muscle cars that came out a few years ago (cant remember which one)- you could pick one up in the us on a basic spec for like $20,000 - When they cam to the UK they were more Like £40,000 to buy ($60,000).

This is the reason why I am seeking to buy abroad at a discount - so I can get treated like an equal human being to the rest of the world - not forced into paying 3 times what the products worth by an evil price fixing racket thats too big for anyone to take a stand against!

Everything on the Dark Web is black market goods. Otherwise why would they even be on the Dark Web?

You pretty much just described the reason America seceded from Britain in the first place. High ass taxes, no representation in the Parliament

There is the matter of sales tax in the US, which is added on top of listed prices - so the fair comparison would be with UK prices before adding VAT.

I'm not saying that we don't seem to pay too much, just that the situation is not so clear cut as it seems at first.

As an optimist, I'd think he was just a bit slow - you could try emailing a few more times before calling him a scanner. Of course, he may be slow at answering his emails as well.

Scamadvisor is pretty good, but I'm not sure if it lists black market sites.

However, the easiest way to avoid scams is to use your brain. A black market seller of no doubt counterfeit items (if he even actually delivers) asks for no escrow and you give him $300 in an untraceable currency? How long did you think about this? Unless you're buying drugs or child porn there's really no reason to be buying stuff off the darknet. It's much safer to use a legit site.

It gave us 200 or so years of breathing room but now we are right back in the same place.  Bad news is it is hard to secede from yourself.
