It isn't only this forum that is being hit by ref link spammers looking for Bitcoin rewards. If I put a forum or a site with a guestbook onto a new domain with "bit" "bitcoin" or "crypto" in the name, then it only seems to take a few hours for the spammers to start to try to register. They never include any details in their application, and I end up having to suspend them on sight. In fact in most cases, I have disabled registration. I'm thinking of having one central registration domain, and insist that details are provided. Captcha doesn't help as the applications seem to be manual, and usually with foreign names or spammer's country based email addresses.

It must be soul destroying work submitting these applications, and following them with spam posts. The returns must be really low, as the generated traffic must be rubbish.

Yep, everything on the internet who contain the word Bitcoin/BTC or crypto is subject to spam, if you go through the blogs, forums, facebook comment section you only see mindless spam or ref links, how to get rich with only 3 click!! and crap like this, i can't really imagine how hard are mods/admins of this forum to keep the forum clean from that (not counting all the "brand new" users just registered to post crap and then disappear).
Captcha never solved anything, it can stop the basic registration bots but it does nothing against the new wave of spams..
What about setting alla the fields as mandatory? maybe with a dropbox menu and not free text?
Another action you can take is to "relegate" new members in certain sections with an automatic purge after xx hours/day so the people who are willing to stay will go through this and understand your admin point of view.

Thanks for the comment. It's all a fair bit of work for very little benefit. I'm coming to the conclusion that it's better to just post my own comments from alter egos. I installed OS ticket to centralise my email contacts. I've got about a dozen domain name sales sites that I'm putting together, and it has made it easier to monitor and to avoid spam. I'm tempted to do the same thing with site registrations. I guessit depends on whether surfers will bother to sign up via a ticket site.

Well ,hilariousandco had a theory about the spam on the forum

Gonna go through that thread and ban/nuke all the other shitposters. I often wonder if there's some site that is telling people to sign up here and just copy and paste posts or are they just smart enough to figure out that's all they have to or can do if they can't speak English or be bothered to write original content? Or maybe, as I mentioned before, the news of this forum must be spreading like wildfire through the playgrounds of schools in Asia and I guess they just get told to copy and paste an older post if they can't speak English very well which I'm guessing the majority of Filipino teenagers can't.

so extrapolating maybe there is some sweatshop out there or maybe more which specialize only in spam/ref links /bounty hunting/ bumping.

I have two fb pages that get about 10 spam links every day from accounts that I've found to be active in this forum also.
And what's worse is that they are selling or sharing user details.
I often use different emails when subscribing to an ICO and it takes only 3 or 4 days before I'm hit with waves of spam .. and phishing links.
Even yobit is doing the same, not to my surprise.

But tell me, is there something new about that? Everything is collapsed, the blockchain, the mempool, the wallets, the processors, everything.

Even this forum has been down for some minutes because of the massive traffic that it got during the last few days, and when the price touched $10k by the first time, the forum suddenly crashed.

Yep, everything on the internet who contain the word Bitcoin/BTC or crypto is subject to spam, if you go through the blogs, forums, facebook comment section you only see mindless spam or ref links

This is something very new for most of us, but you should know that people will never stop draining out those cows as much as they can before it ends.

Go to mainstream social media and searching for BitCoin is the same than search for spam. Instagram is the worse, soon as you follow one page with "Bitcoin" in the name they will flood you.
