Just had to share, I almost dropped my coffee when I read it, heard from a friend today who said:

'I lost my USB with 10,000 bitcoin on that I bought for $10 each a while back' ....

Holy shit! I hope your friend was just kidding. If not, recommend him to make backups, especially in the cloud.

Nope, not kidding ... he's definitely not kidding.
I'm pretty sure he's looked into all options as I said I thought that bitcoins aren't actually 'stored' on the USB.
I suggested a search of his HD, but think he's done all that. I'm sure he's exhausted all tech options with presumably no joy.

USB gone, bye bye £133 million and counting ...

A while back?? 10$ each a while backHuh You mean like 10 years back!!
Well.. I don't believe it, no one who has bitcoin from 10 years would lose them now!

Anyway, if he didn't do any backups then they're lost forever..

Oh, seriously?
You dropped your coffee and you said, let's start trolling...

If the story is true, can your friend pinpoint the address where he stored his 10k coins?
Of course he can't sign a message from it but at least tell you the address?

Anyhow, nice try. But if you would have said 100 BTC people might have believed you.

That is really bad. This is the moment that millionaire comes to dustpin in a seconds of time. I see that you have mentioned that this information true but not really looks like a legit info bro. I will suggest everyone to have the desktop wallet only because we might find the option importing the wallet at anytime. You will find the risk on both the online wallet and hardware wallet both with this news I think.

it's a great value, I feel sad too, my advice, should you continue to search your USB. maybe you forgot to save, or you lend it to your friends. if i experience something like that, i will not sleep.

it's very sad, I think you are too careless to save USB, and I think you will keep thinking about your USB. because you lost a lot of bitcoin.

I do not think that story. Seriously ? Think.... 10.000 Bitcoins? Even if he had 10,100,1000 ...... the number does not matter. He did back-up to his wallets and I do not think he kept everyone in one place. Especially on a single USB Stick.
I dont belive the story .

Oh my golly! Is this story for real? I mean, really? 10,000 Bitcoins and the only storage is a mere USB. What the hell was he thinking about? Anyway, to be serious about it, if indeed the experience shared here is true, there should be several backups. One single USB carrying 10,000 Bitcoins is really negligence or even bordering on extreme lax on your friend's part. Everyone should try to learn a lesson or two from this case.

If that was me, i was probably not even going to be on this world anymore.

Just imagine the situation in where you realize that you could have more than 175 million dollars, oh my god,
that is craazy.

I could not live in here anymore.

'I lost my USB with 10,000 bitcoin on that I bought for $10 each a while back' ....

And just imagine if after that he becomes poor, how would he feel? Those feelings could not even been explained.

I had a friend who was holding more than two bitcoins on it's cold storage a few years ago on Coinbase, he bought those bitcoins at $400 both.

Maybe it is not a big amount of money, but now they could be worth more than $35,000...

Only that he forgot the password and the email that he used when he registered in coinbase  Roll Eyes

I would recommend to the friend of the OP a therapist or something, if the story is true losing 170 million dollars just because you were careless will be one of those experiences that will change your life, I'm still mad that 15 years ago I lost 300 dollars and from time to time I try to think how I lost it, so losing such amount of money will probably be enough to make me lose my mind.

Wow this is so fucking true..

I lost about 100$ of my local currency a few years ago, they were like 50 dollars at the current rate, but god.. It really affected me a lot, i thought that it was dying at the moment that it lost that money.

because in my country it was a lot of money, i am not from a 3rd country, but that money was a lot of money just for a teenager, i mean, in here, a common teen is usually carrying out with 20 dollars, no more.

But poor of your friend, 170 million dollars are NOTHING compared to what it is worth right now, because the price went up by another 10% today.
