Hello I am new to crypto currency and would like some advice on coins besides the big three. I was wondering if there were any specific things to look for when deciding on an alt coin. Also i was wondering what exchange is best for these. thanks

Never ''panic buy'' after the raise already happened sometimes it turns out well but mostly it will suck and u will have a few sleepless nights. Buy coins when they been stable for a few days

Also better to stick to older and estahblished coins which are known; the profit may not come fast but if u have patience u are sure to make some profit over time if u just hodl patiently

Also looking at the actual technology might be a good idea tho i myself suck at that tbh

If I wanted to speculate with altcoins I guess I would try to catch IOTA's next wave... it's a pretty hyped coin right now.

Cardano is also on the rise... but overall it's a very risky game, you need to know when you are buying in the middle of a pump that's about to dump. Research the different projects and consider the potential for it to pump. Ideally you want to wait for the charts to calm a bit and look a bit horizontal then wait for the next wave.

An altcoin needs good interesting technology and good marketing. Byteball has interesting technology, but weak marketing, which is why it's stuck way too low on the rankings, compared to the bullshit coins above it.

Here are basic guidelines:

-do your own due diligence
-read the whitepaper
-look into the team/founders/advisors
-is this a product/platform you will use?
-follow all of their channels

For example, I'm planning on going in on the bee token. They are a platform that is decentralizing airbnb and they also charge zero commissions. As an airbnb user, this is perfect for me because it brings the benefits of the platform and merges blockchain tech into it. In terms of the team, very impressive. Telegram channel? Very active and growing very quickly.

This is just an idea of how to look at ICO's.

Will there be another wave though... That's what I'm wondering. I was expecting it to hit $7 levels by now, but it's continuously fluctuating with an overall downward trend. I'm thinking about unloading my coins during the next wave, to be honest.

You are looking into the wrong direction, hype coins are less profitable than the un-hyped ones like the the others said,do not let your greediness burn your money, profit is a profit take it or leave it thats how i am trading alts.

best exchange for me is bittrex it is newbie friendly exchange its very easy to use.

I don't know how tech savvy you are but I like two of your picks, Cardano and IOTA both are still young with a lot of potential for growth, it will be good to ride on its long term prospect

a lot of people thinks that because they only read the whitepaper they are going to have a succesfull investment in there, this is false, the whitepaper can be just writen by a good salesman and this will be a huge bait for everybody.

-read the whitepaper

Lol, no one is seeing if you are going to use that platform on the future, most of those people who invest are only looking for making profit by themselves.

They just want to buy at pre-ico or just on the ico, and then sell when it hits the exchanges as soon as possible.

-is this a product/platform you will use?

Yes i do have a same thought of buying IOTA. It looks stable from yesterday and its a right time to get ready for the ride with IOTA.
However still its based on their project development to buy Cardano for spike expectation.
I would say ETH, LTC, XRP is good for now and long term becuased it started spiking and they will work on project development.
I will go with XRP, IOTA for buying. I hope ripple will not go down again

The alt coin market right now is very unstable and fluctuating very rapidly. I would suggest you to wait for a crash or until the price are more stable. The crash might not happen, but the chances of being stable for few months may happen. That is when you should be investing.
Do your own research. Look for coins that has potential and is not a clone of other coin.

If you are looking to invest for a longer term, when choosing a coin just read it's whitepaper and answer yourself if there's actually a need of that coin and if you would use it.

Checking out the developer team and their activity is also quite important.

It seems you want to invest in altcoin than bitcoin. However, I would like to suggest bitcoin is the best. In addition, the etherum and the litecoin is 2 altcoin have increased sharply in recent period. Please consider carefully before investing in the long-term with altcoin

If you have talked about when and the answer should be the correction. you can try to buy the altcoin. The best exchange site which provided easy for accessibility and userfriendly. Remember it has had a lot of the volume to provide good liquidity to the users.
But in this time i'm not talking about the major exchange site just like trex or polo. There are so many people still can't fixed their problem with it.

In my opinion new altcoin that has big potential is POWR, ADA, WTC nad WABI. These altcoin now tradeable in Bittrex and Binance. I think these altcoin have big potential and the price possible to going up to 10 times from current price because the fundamental is strong, the aim of the project is interesting ,the product is working already and they has something unique that others project doesn't have it.

The way to choose a potentially rising altcoin is read the latest news on subreddit cryptocurrency or news sites that talking about altcoin, if there is good news or progress of an altcoin it will certainly make that alt rise in price

First thing to look when you are planning to invest on altcoins:
Legality, legitness. There are some coins released just to be released (0 work) You should care about how and why that coin works.

if you are new to crypto and want to buy, buy bitcoin and ethereum. once you understand everything, you can possibly buy other altc, I think this way can minimize the losses that will occur. because the current market situation is hard to guess and I'm afraid you'll get stuck.

You are asking beside the top three, but let me tell you the real safety for beginners is from top three or four only. You can use bittrex exchange but make sure to enhance verify your accoutn before using that exchange.

If you want to put your money in investing on a coin, you should be accountable of what is going to happen, I mean you should face the consequences if things did not go well. You should put amount of money that you are willing to lose, if things go well, easy profit.  When investing, you should do your own research about the coin. This will minimize the risk of losing. Invest on coins that you think are promising, some that have potential to rise. Search about what good coins to invest this 2018.Its better to buy until it is cheap but never go panic buying because you might regret it.

Buy deep sell high! Follow 6 month period up and down cycles. Do not rush. Give it some time. Do not follow the monitor too much. This will cause panic buy & sells.

hey auliahr I am completely agree with you for newbies in crypto first only buy bitcoin and ether as this coins are safe and secure for investment and for long it will give good profit as well. And in this time you will realize how crypto moves and if possible you should watch some video and learn some technicals. Other side in my opinion bittrex, Yobit, Mercotex, Poloniex are good exchanges.

As you're just starting fresh now, I would suggest getting some rough idea about how alt coins work, how they can be used or traded and then actually go ahead with something. Start by reading the Altcoin discussion subforum and participate in Airdrops or Bounty Campaigns for starters, once you are well versed with them and get some values out of it, then start searching for potential projects to invest in and once you are well confident and assured of a potential Project, invest some assets into it.

Hello I am new to crypto currency and would like some advice on coins besides the big three. I was wondering if there were any specific things to look for when deciding on an alt coin. Also i was wondering what exchange is best for these. thanks

Well if you are a newbie here I would request you to first learn and research more about bitcoin and altcoins and try to find out the best ico from their project work, their technology and marketing cycle and offers.Try to think whether investing here in this project would gain you and those owners any big profit or not. Right now there are many coins which are worth buying like Litecoin, Dash, Neocoin, Ripple etc who are having excellent technology on it's back and their marketing cycle is pretty good which makes them worth investing it.

As a beginner in this forum, my only advice is that you should invest in altcoins that have the potential to grow in the future.

As a beginner in this forum, my only advice is that you should invest in altcoins that have the potential to grow in the future.

That's a very good advice, but how can you choose?

These are my criteria:

- Premined or not?

Premined coins are too suspicious. The devs take an initial big slice for themselves always justifying that with some philosophical rhetoric but there are many past examples of total scam coins using this scheme.

- ICO or no ICO?

I don't like ICOs, I prefer to invest in an already ongoing project with given proof of stability and endurance. I'm not saying all ICOs are scam, but same of them are for sure!

- How old is the coin?

In my book, if a coin is still being actively traded after 3/4 years of existence, this has to mean something; there is a faithful community behind it.

- Is it still being actively developed?

Following the previous point, if after 3/4 years the coin still has a dev team committed to it with real plans for the future, then it has a real project!

- Does it have any real use besides pure pump and dump speculation?

Is the coin being used for any kind of purchases? If not, are there any plans for it? Otherwise, it will only be a play toy for trading.

- Does it have an active and large community?

How large is the community? Is it still active or everybody left a long time ago?

- Is it PoW of PoS?

Proof of Work is a dead end, the power consumption is obscene. Not viable for the average domestic crypto enthusiast. Proof of Stake can be done with a Rasberry Pi  Grin

- Fully functioning wallet?

Some coins have terrible wallets, unstable, not user friendly. This is a key factor, the software has to be in line with the state of the at crypto developments.

This doesn't effect much because most coins like eth , bch , btg , neo etc were pre mined and their prices are at all time high. It doesn't affect for coins with bigger cap if it's a new coin then i would agree with this point.

There is nothing much to look if you decide to trade with top 10 coin on cmc but if there have lower caps it's better to avoid those and instead trade with coins which are listed on only major exchanges  (bittrex , polo , binance ).

maybe this could be a good idea but he needs to search what coin that has potential to grow in the future. besides that, he needs to learn to analyze on every coin in the market or at least for the top ten or top twenty on the coinmarketcap list so he can start to buy the coin. this is important so he doesn't make mistake to buy the wrong coin.

Investing in bitcoin , Ethereum and LTC is really your best/only choice if you're gonna be a bit skeptical and you don't wanna be worried about loosing your money . Especially if you're going with Btc or Eth because both are making progress and achieving records in value and market cap . Eth has risen by 7% in it's 24h volume making approximately 100$ of increase . An increase that it had to struggle through several months in order to achieve it in the past ,as for Btc it has broken the 18k bar once again and may even reach 20k before Christmas .

In the long term, it is certainly better to invest in the Coinmarketcap first ten crypto. For example, in Ripple, Ethereum or Waves. If you want to trade in the short term, then you need to study technical analysis and invest in any cryptocurrency. At this time, for example, I think that upwards there will be such altcoins as Digibyte and Counterparty.

You need to pick altcoins on some basis like short term or long term and another thing is this altcoins for trading or holding.
If you looking altcoins for trading then choose coins with high price volatility but volatility need to be in a range or you don't know when the price will crash.Buy coins when price low and sell them at high.

I suggest you poloniex exchange because it have low fee when compared to other exchanges so you can earn more money.

I would buy some BTC, ETH and also 3rd generation of cryptos like ADA and IOTA.

There are also smaler coins where you can start without money and by participating in bounty programs you can actually earn a lot. I earned 675 VIBs just from yesterday, that is the Viberate token. And I spent about 20 minutes doing this. In 2 weeks I got about 4k VIB. That is about 350 euros right now.

Check it out: https://www.viberate.com/referrals/2ed6b8b9_9588dc25_2edd6fe5

I would advise buying a subscription for some kind of closed telegram or subscribing to news, which also cost money. I'm here all thinking of buying such a subscription, but the price is too high. 0.1 bitcoin per lifetime subscription or elsewhere 0.15 bit. per subscription year. But paying this amount, you get pretty good truth signals - what to buy and what to sell. In 80% of all this happens, as indicated in the paid forecasts.

First rule: Never let your emotion interfer in your trade decision.

Second: Reverse psychology.

Third: invest only what you can afford to lose.

The best thing in cryptocurrency is that we can't say surely and definitely that we can have lots of profit with that particular coin and lots of kisses with that particular coin , so here all depends upon our luck and another factor that works is only the news . Sometimes a bad and good news give the big impact to the price of coin Because during that news coin's name get famous and easily can get investors and also sometimes negative news ( rumours ) gives bad impact at the market of that coin .
So we can easily decide that which one is better for day trading/short term buy and sell of coins .
Currently my suggestion for you to buy regalcoin , bitcoin gold , Etherium , posw ( at 1000 and sell at 1400 easily ) , Digibyte etc .

try xrb in mercatox, bitgrail or bitflip exchanger it's a good coin you can invest in that but monitor it for the good of your coin because the price is get so high sometime and get low also, you need only to monitor that to earn that's all,Moreover it's a safe coin you need to wait only to earn.Try also ethereum like always buy little by little and wait to sell atleast 3 years because base in few years now i think in the future it will be similar in bitcoin, you can do also invest in ltc but it not sure coin base on my 2 months monitor in that coins because it's only stable but i already earn in that coin.

If you have good amount to invest i will suggest to diversify in the top 10 ones, it will give you a mix of the best 10 cryptos, less risk and hood growth.

But top 10 can not always give good results. You have to market a small cap on market cap and RSI will have to investigate the coins. It's your luck and some fever too.

Before investing in altcoin make sure you look out for its feature and potential . It is hard to predict the outcomes of the altcoin but still there are some ways in which you can locate a good coin having a good future .
The major players of the market associated with the altcoin can be a good way to predict its future .
Coinmarket can give you exact values and graphics of the sales of the coin . These days altcoins such as IOTA , dash ,ripple etc are doing pretty good job in market . They are the best coins to invest right now .
Many exchanges including etherdelta can be used for the exchange.

Always follow your objective trading guidelines, whatever those may be, and never panic sell or panic buy. Those who can keep a cool head while sh*t is going down are those who make it to the top! Sometimes altcoins can do bad for a really really long time... Not only that, but coins can easily die in this space. Really, most coins die. You make the decision when to abandon a coin but always do it with your objective self and not with emotional decisions.

Also, never be too greedy. If you think the market is about to fall out and you can't set a limit order to protect yourself, you can either gamble that risk or you can sell and take your profits. A lot of people are afraid of missing out and end up losing more money than if they just really thought about what they're losing.

Study, devote a daily time slot to get yourself educated about the plethora of altcoins and related tech specs. Don't just invest money blindly or you might have a serious disillusion.

You are opposite in your answer bro. Most of the people says that top listed altcoins are good invest our fund and it shows decnt growth everyday if there is slite changes in the chart also there was a good growth in the market place circulation as well. So always going with the altocisn top in market soikd be safe and can make more money with the amount saved in trading.

Never do hurry in selling your coins because altcoins is a slow process and it growth rate is slow but the growth is definate and it provides great profit and be patient while holding altcoins because the market value of altcoins increases at very slow rate.

Look at

1. team
2. whitepaper
3. practical application
4. is there market demand?
5. Linkedin profiles of team
6. previous projects

A recent one I've found that fulfills those for me would be the bee token. Decentralized Airbnb with zero commissions with a badass team from uber, google, and facebook. Their platform is one I would personally use, so it's a good ICO imo. https://www.thebeetoken.com/

In addition to the above tips, do not forget to diversify the risks-do not invest all the money in one altcoin. Buy a few altcoins. Also, for diversification, it is good to have bitcoin in the investment portfolio. Wink

The best way is to find out what coin you are going to buy, what coin is intended for. You can find that information on coinmarketcap and twitter, be ready before buying pennies as your money will probably disappear forever.

If you do not want to go with ethereum/dash then you might like what is in store with XVG which is doing pretty well with its value right now and I think it will still increase its price by the start of 2018. So right now you should invest on that while it's still on the run or you might regret of not taking the opportunity.

in search of a coin in alt, should see how the charts and market developments within a week, we must be observant in choosing the coins we will buy, in addition maybe we can go to the discussion forum, or telegram of coins who want to be a target to buy , then we follow its development, when it decreases then that's when we memveli coin we want, that's just a little experience from me

Considering my opinion, I am more of a long-term investor. Therefore, I recommend that you have in your portfolio such coins as NEO, LTC, CVC, Waves, XRP and ADA. I have studied each, and will keep them for more than a year.
