Hello I am new to crypto currency and would like some advice on coins besides the big three. I was wondering if there were any specific things to look for when deciding on an alt coin. Also i was wondering what exchange is best for these. thanks
if you are new to crypto and want to buy, buy bitcoin and ethereum. once you understand everything, you can possibly buy other altc, I think this way can minimize the losses that will occur. because the current market situation is hard to guess and I'm afraid you'll get stuck.

You are asking beside the top three, but let me tell you the real safety for beginners is from top three or four only. You can use bittrex exchange but make sure to enhance verify your accoutn before using that exchange.

If you want to put your money in investing on a coin, you should be accountable of what is going to happen, I mean you should face the consequences if things did not go well. You should put amount of money that you are willing to lose, if things go well, easy profit.  When investing, you should do your own research about the coin. This will minimize the risk of losing. Invest on coins that you think are promising, some that have potential to rise. Search about what good coins to invest this 2018.Its better to buy until it is cheap but never go panic buying because you might regret it.

Buy deep sell high! Follow 6 month period up and down cycles. Do not rush. Give it some time. Do not follow the monitor too much. This will cause panic buy & sells.

hey auliahr I am completely agree with you for newbies in crypto first only buy bitcoin and ether as this coins are safe and secure for investment and for long it will give good profit as well. And in this time you will realize how crypto moves and if possible you should watch some video and learn some technicals. Other side in my opinion bittrex, Yobit, Mercotex, Poloniex are good exchanges.

As you're just starting fresh now, I would suggest getting some rough idea about how alt coins work, how they can be used or traded and then actually go ahead with something. Start by reading the Altcoin discussion subforum and participate in Airdrops or Bounty Campaigns for starters, once you are well versed with them and get some values out of it, then start searching for potential projects to invest in and once you are well confident and assured of a potential Project, invest some assets into it.

Well if you are a newbie here I would request you to first learn and research more about bitcoin and altcoins and try to find out the best ico from their project work, their technology and marketing cycle and offers.Try to think whether investing here in this project would gain you and those owners any big profit or not. Right now there are many coins which are worth buying like Litecoin, Dash, Neocoin, Ripple etc who are having excellent technology on it's back and their marketing cycle is pretty good which makes them worth investing it.

As a beginner in this forum, my only advice is that you should invest in altcoins that have the potential to grow in the future.

As a beginner in this forum, my only advice is that you should invest in altcoins that have the potential to grow in the future.

That's a very good advice, but how can you choose?

These are my criteria:

- Premined or not?

Premined coins are too suspicious. The devs take an initial big slice for themselves always justifying that with some philosophical rhetoric but there are many past examples of total scam coins using this scheme.

- ICO or no ICO?

I don't like ICOs, I prefer to invest in an already ongoing project with given proof of stability and endurance. I'm not saying all ICOs are scam, but same of them are for sure!

- How old is the coin?

In my book, if a coin is still being actively traded after 3/4 years of existence, this has to mean something; there is a faithful community behind it.

- Is it still being actively developed?

Following the previous point, if after 3/4 years the coin still has a dev team committed to it with real plans for the future, then it has a real project!

- Does it have any real use besides pure pump and dump speculation?

Is the coin being used for any kind of purchases? If not, are there any plans for it? Otherwise, it will only be a play toy for trading.

- Does it have an active and large community?

How large is the community? Is it still active or everybody left a long time ago?

- Is it PoW of PoS?

Proof of Work is a dead end, the power consumption is obscene. Not viable for the average domestic crypto enthusiast. Proof of Stake can be done with a Rasberry Pi  Grin

- Fully functioning wallet?

Some coins have terrible wallets, unstable, not user friendly. This is a key factor, the software has to be in line with the state of the at crypto developments.

This doesn't effect much because most coins like eth , bch , btg , neo etc were pre mined and their prices are at all time high. It doesn't affect for coins with bigger cap if it's a new coin then i would agree with this point.

There is nothing much to look if you decide to trade with top 10 coin on cmc but if there have lower caps it's better to avoid those and instead trade with coins which are listed on only major exchanges  (bittrex , polo , binance ).

maybe this could be a good idea but he needs to search what coin that has potential to grow in the future. besides that, he needs to learn to analyze on every coin in the market or at least for the top ten or top twenty on the coinmarketcap list so he can start to buy the coin. this is important so he doesn't make mistake to buy the wrong coin.

Investing in bitcoin , Ethereum and LTC is really your best/only choice if you're gonna be a bit skeptical and you don't wanna be worried about loosing your money . Especially if you're going with Btc or Eth because both are making progress and achieving records in value and market cap . Eth has risen by 7% in it's 24h volume making approximately 100$ of increase . An increase that it had to struggle through several months in order to achieve it in the past ,as for Btc it has broken the 18k bar once again and may even reach 20k before Christmas .

In the long term, it is certainly better to invest in the Coinmarketcap first ten crypto. For example, in Ripple, Ethereum or Waves. If you want to trade in the short term, then you need to study technical analysis and invest in any cryptocurrency. At this time, for example, I think that upwards there will be such altcoins as Digibyte and Counterparty.

You need to pick altcoins on some basis like short term or long term and another thing is this altcoins for trading or holding.
If you looking altcoins for trading then choose coins with high price volatility but volatility need to be in a range or you don't know when the price will crash.Buy coins when price low and sell them at high.

I suggest you poloniex exchange because it have low fee when compared to other exchanges so you can earn more money.

I would buy some BTC, ETH and also 3rd generation of cryptos like ADA and IOTA.

There are also smaler coins where you can start without money and by participating in bounty programs you can actually earn a lot. I earned 675 VIBs just from yesterday, that is the Viberate token. And I spent about 20 minutes doing this. In 2 weeks I got about 4k VIB. That is about 350 euros right now.

Check it out: https://www.viberate.com/referrals/2ed6b8b9_9588dc25_2edd6fe5

I would advise buying a subscription for some kind of closed telegram or subscribing to news, which also cost money. I'm here all thinking of buying such a subscription, but the price is too high. 0.1 bitcoin per lifetime subscription or elsewhere 0.15 bit. per subscription year. But paying this amount, you get pretty good truth signals - what to buy and what to sell. In 80% of all this happens, as indicated in the paid forecasts.

First rule: Never let your emotion interfer in your trade decision.

Second: Reverse psychology.

Third: invest only what you can afford to lose.

Crypto is so exciting that it moves your alter ego. Just do your part- research, research and research... sooner, it will be fruitfult, all you have research in crypto will reflect to your holding. Smiley Good luck and welcome to crypto world.
