The network tries to produce one block per 10 minutes. It does this by automatically adjusting how difficult it is to produce blocks.

Gosh, I guess Google would have the server infrastructure to mine those 21 million bitcoins, come to think of it!

 I could easily see them at 5*10^22 $/coin soon... I think we are very close to some big companies accepting bitcoins as payment.
