i would personally go with 1060 as NVIDIA has a lot of mining option/flexibity than AMD in terms of algorithm

AMD cards are good for mining Ethereum and the ROI is still very good right now. But there is always the question of if and when ETH will go POS. If ETH goes POS, will there be another POW coin using the same algo that can take its place. So I would pick the GTX for more flexibility.

AMDs Cards better than NVIDIA in ETHASH, But NVIDIA better than AMD cards in Equihash. The most important part is considering all your cost and budget to decide.

Neither.  Save up for a 580 or Vega 56... or a 1070ti or 1080ti.

AMD = Hashes/Second/Dollar
NVIDIA = Hashes/Second/Power

AMD cheaper than NVIDIA in prices, but NVIDIA has a better in power consumptions. The main difference between AMD and NVIDIA on hashing is if that Algorithm contains 32 bit rotate right, AMD will do that on 1 tick, but NVIDIA would need 3 tick to do that. So AMD 3X faster than NVIDIA on Algorithm that contains 32 bit rotate. But now NVIDIA has increased their performance on their GPUs. Let's see.
