Im new to the forum, and would like to ask you where you make your trades. This because i see many complaints about many exchanges. Right now i don't know where to put my money in.
Is there a website to compare them?

I thought Bittrex was quite good, but the many negative replies on the forum changed my mind a bit about them.

I thought some of the names below were good;

Bittrex
Binance
Bitfinex
Poloniex
Gdax      (high fees though)
Kraken   (website most of the times unreachable)

Im from the EU, so i don't know if its better to trade on a EU exchange or US?

All the exchanges are a scum.Sooner or later they will steal your monies.There is not a single exchange which hasn't scammed customer in terms of verification and locking withdrawals.I;d advise using localbitcoins as they kinda of a different architecture from usual exchanges.If you insist on using an exchange,use the one that is located in your country so incase if they scam your money,you know how to find them and knock their teeth out.

If you take forum reviews into consideration,you will find an accusation against all of the major exchanges.You gotta take a risk.Anyway it's not a good practice to store your coins on an exchange.History proves,you will end up losing all of it.

Binance-Might have a good future but not in a good position currently.

Trezor or Ledger Nano S.

Both are almost the same when it comes to security and features.

So you do not trade any btc on any platform other then localbitcoin? I would like to trade cryptocurrencies as you would do on forex.

Not really. Any review sites you find online are generally just shilling their referral links. In reality, you will see complaints about every single exchange, especially right now with large customer influxes.

Personally, I use Bitmex for high leverage bitcoin trading. I use Shapeshift for swing trading altcoins when I can (they have a limited number of coins available). Otherwise I use Poloniex, Bitfinex and Cryptopia.

This seems somewhat dependent on geographic location. A lot of users from the Middle East, Russia, etc. have had their accounts locked without explanation or recourse. US users seem to be mostly unaffected. Not sure about EU users.

You probably want a regulated SEPA-friendly exchange if you plan to leave funds on an exchange for trading. Bitstamp and GDAX are the most reputable. But like I said, these customer influxes have led to performance issues on all the major exchanges.

If you're looking to invest in or trade altcoins with low market caps, you're limited to where the coins are listed. I use Cryptopia, Poloniex and Bittrex as needed. But I don't keep funds there; I just use them to exchange and withdraw.

I day trade BTC and the higher cap altcoins on BITMEX. They have futures and swap markets where you can use pretty high leverage. No KYC and US customers prohibited, so good from a regulatory and privacy standpoint.

Two important omissions to make.

Bittrex - Legacy accounts getting downgraded to new accounts, meaning that people have their funds stuck in their account which they thought would have the high limits that they previously have enjoyed, and being forced to submit ID in order to just withdraw their money. Also delayed support tickets/verification.

Poloniex - Low withdrawal limits. Unreliable support. Slow verification. Basically the same issues that bittrex has, except the issues have been going on for a lot longer.

The rest are all okay exchanges, there are honestly no single exchange that is winning the race right now.

Good suggestion but most people don't have any choice but to go with the flow on using these exchanges and as being said none of them do really have a clean record ( no issues on withdrwal,frozen accounts, lost deposits and many more) All of them do have issues. Don't believe on me? Reaching out their main thread would really have negative issues same as Patatas said which is actually part of the reality. This is why  we shouldn't trust completely on any exchanges.

Kraken is a good exchange when you can reach it. Most of the time nowadays you will see that CloudFlare error 520.
You can check status of Kraken here: https://status.kraken.com/
But it appears that they are not updating this as often as I would like to see - since it is always stuck on "degraded performance" - even when the site is 100% down.

Bittrex right now is not a safe way to do your exchange. They were good before but now, with there new accounts verification and delayed support ticket. I don't think it is a good idea to do transactions on bittrex. "Just saying"

Yea, I heard alot of bad and decided not to send my ID and join them.  Poloniex I loved before but CS sucks bad, I got locked out due to hackers trying to access my account and now I cant get in.  I have 7,000 USD in altcoins in there.  I might move to another exchange, I just dont know which one.  They all suck

Have anyone tried virwox? Virwox is a good exchange platform the problem is they have limits and high transaction fees.

they have extremely high fees. the main reason people use them is for the paypal/moneybookers processing, but you're better off finding a trading partner here on the forum (see the currency exchange board).

you need to keep in mind that there are steep "conversion fees" on top of the fees listed for processing your funds on virwox. for example, listed paypal fees vary from 3-4%. but here's the rub:

Technically, VirWoX only supports to sell BTC for Linden Dollars. However, you can first do that (as described above) and then buy some real-world cash for your Linden Dollars.

the market for linden dollars (SLL) is extremely thin, so automatic conversion (market orders) leads to significant loss of value. and to boot, they charge something like 3% just for BTC/SLL market orders.

here is someone's experience from earlier this year:

Virwox is fastest. Just used it to buy bitcoin from there. It took me 3 minutes to deposit money and convert it to bitcoin. But the conversion fee is little high. I deposited 100 dollars but received 87 dollars worth of bitcoin. But it is easiest and fastest purchase out there. But I do think the that conversion fee is worth risking now. Because bitcoin will be much higher in next coming months. Your 100 dollar bitcoin will be worth 1000 dollars next few months.
