Hey all. So... after a few weeks of studying crypto i decided to make some purchases. I only bought a couple of days ago, so not holding coins at their lowest point. Nothing huge, but with the idea of holding it for around 10 years to give to my children. I know no-one can ever predict what will happen to prices, so i just bought what ( at this moment ) i could afford to lose, although i am sure i will add small amounts over time in the future. My purchase is made up of some XRP, Iota and Data. I also bought a Ledger Nano to store it on ( guessing that will be as safe as anything ...) Here's the main questions i am wondering....
1) Are my purchases sensible ? ( As far as anyone can be with this...and i know alot of that will be based on different peoples opinions, but i didnt want to risk getting caught in a scam ICO )
2) My ledger gets here in a couple of days... and despite reading up on MEW, i cant figure out if i will be able to send my coins straight to the ledger from the exchange, or will it be Exchange --> MEW --> Ledger.
Not asking if i should have bought X instead of Y, just asking for a little bit of knowledge as looking and reading the wealth of info out there is swamping me i.e when using/creating with MEW should i be offline ? As it seems i need to download stuff etc..
Cheers guys, any insight is appreciated..

I think your choices are good. IOTA is probably very nice future investment targeting 3 years ahead. On the other hand data feels bit disappointing. I can't answer other wallet question as I don't use ledger sorry.

First of all, it's great you have made up your own mind. Don't let other people get you fooled, since nobody can predict where any of the coins go Secondly; it's very smart you've bought a hardware wallet right away! Ledger Nano is also very handy and easy to use. However, you'd check what coins Ledger Nano supports first. It doesn't help you to buy coins you can't store in it. Check from here: https://ledger.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005304449-Which-altcoins-and-tokens-are-supported-by-the-Ledger-products-You manage your coins in Ledger Nano like you'd manage them in any other online wallet. There's a software you install to your desktop and then you can send/receive any coins it supports.

well for long term are better like: bitcoin, ethereum, monero, stellar, PIVX, litecoin, ethereum classic.
But I recommend you to every month/week or so you invest 20-100$ and put in some currency that your ledger wallet supports.
What is MEW I don't know... other that hloding you have this forum and you can earn weekly with signature campaign.

I prefer to have my coins in software wallets, properly encrypted and backed up. However, the idea of having an hardware wallet to give you children in the future sounds like a great plan!

1 Yes, it is. and why are you thinking if that was not sensible or make you feeling doubt with it? You have purchased the major coin that gives the more guarantee for your amount. 2 It will better to sync your ledger to the MEW and then try to send it to the exchange site, Due to the network congestion of ethereum and if you are using the mew service and you can try to set the more gas limit and gwei. To make your transaction in high priority.

To be safe invest in the top 10 altcoins and diversify your investments. But it is better to read up and do research about them to see which ones you truly believe in and then invest in them.

Investing in coins is not an easy thing, you need a lot of research to be able to get what the coin will be in the future,im doing technical analysis in trading alts so far so good i can earn 300% of my portfolio every month you need accuracy in picking coins dont ask others what to buy ask yourself is it worth to buy?if yes why?if you answered why the next question is when? thats the time technical analysis will come into you.

Most important things I could tell you:
Do your own research, don't listen to people on bitcointalk telling you to buy into their project, and if it's too good to be true...then it usually is.

Your coins are not bad, I think you should diversify it more because there are lots of high potential fields of which projects are working on.

You did everything right! Welcome to our large cryptocurrency family. In the future, study and buy other altcoins-diversify your risks. In general, it would be nice to have bitcoin in the your investment portfolio.

With Xrp and IOTA has not lost, but data is increasingly difficult, but in any case, these 2 coins will pay off greatly in the next 3 years)) On your place I would look closer to NEO until he is so precious)

I would suggest that you study the top 50 coins in marketcap. Choose the one which has greater fundamentals and technology, pick the cheaper one and invest in it. Dont rush and sell when it is down. Hold for long time.
Surely you will benefit

IOTA and XRP are good choices. Both of the coins have strong team who have build great solutions for Big companies. So it is possible, they will boom in near future. While, I have no data about DATA. Also don't forget Bitcoin. When you holding other cryptos, make sure you have equivalent amount in btc too. It is possible that altcoins once again start dumping and people start moving their money to bitcoins from other coins.

MEW is for some ERC20 compatible coins. Also use for storing your ethereum. Ethereum is also good to invest. Better try some investing ERC20 tokens but you must check first all their ICO's to avoid victims of scam. Your choices of buying is good those coins are already proven good for investments.
