At approximately 7:15 am EDT on December 16 the price of bitcoin barreled above the $18K zone on the exchange Bitstamp. The price has climbed well over 1000 percent during the course of 2017, and has increased by $8,000 in the last two months. There hasn’t been an asset that has increased in value this much in decades, and most people believe there is nothing in the world quite like bitcoin markets. At $18,000 per BTC, the cryptocurrency now commands a hefty $300Bn market capitalization. Additionally, bitcoin markets have been surging swapping $12-17Bn in global volume every 24-hours for the past two weeks. The top five exchanges trading the most bitcoin today include Bitfinex, Bithumb, GDAX, Okex, and Bittrex.

Again, this may have been driven by CME bitcoin future contracts on Monday. A lot have been waiting and buying in line with irrational behavior and gambling that the price could go to $20,000 but we all know that bitcoin is very volatile and it may or may not happen. This is what we see during the CBOE offering as well, but the price seems to settled around $16,000-$17,000 after a week so there's not much significant price increased but instead we see relatively reduced volatility. Maybe we can hit $20,000 but it needed a new set of investors, those who are just putting their money because they don't want to miss the opportunity to gain profit (FOMO). Let's see how it goes though, only a few days so better just hold on our bitcoin and decide later if the wind is favorable on our end.

It's not actually a new all time high. GDAX has gone over $19,600 some days ago already. I like how GDAX is more and more developing itself as the main exchange, while shitty exchange Bitfinex, who isn't accepting US registrants anymore, is still the leading entity in USD volumes, but then with their Tether garbage. Any exchange where its main fiat currency is Tether, should not be taken seriously. I personally always focus on Bitstamp since it's my main exchange, but as second I pay attention to GDAX. It's safe to say that right now everyone is looking forward to market leader CME to enter the game. I wonder if we're going to see contracts being settled at +$20,000 rates at the time of opening.

Every single day I am becoming more and more anxious as to my Bitcoin wealth because I know for a fact that I can already cash it out because of its value but I am constrained to because what if I lose the biggest opportunity of my life? We'll never know until we stick with it till the end right? On the flip side, what if I also would lose all the gains I have here just by being too greedy about it? It is funny that the price move from 18k to 17k in a DAY!! One year ago 1k was the whole price of none Bitcoin. In 5 years the
 price could move 20k in one day and people would remember that they could have bought a whole Bitcoin for just 18K

It is funny that the price move from 18k to 17k in a DAY!! One year ago 1k was the whole price of none Bitcoin.

You know what's even more funny? It's that after the MtGox debacle the market just wouldn't go over the $300 level. It kept jumping up and down and several times attempt to finally break through that level, but there was no market incentive to do so. It was quite a long bear market that we were suffering from. Right now we see +$500 swings in a matter of seconds, really. It perfectly shows how this market has been progressing throughout the years. That being said, it looks like were about to break through the $20k level before CME opens its Bitcoin future platform. It's a pretty insane achievement, but has become so normal due to the constant records we have been breaking.
