can you mine these days, with all these massive corporations?  apparently its harder now than before.

You can still mine with CPU, it won't make you that much money though you can still mine without any issues.
It depends on the hardware, algorithm and the difficulty.

The grue lurks in the darkest places of the earth. Its favorite diet is adventurers, but its insatiable appetite is tempered by its fear of light. No grue has ever been seen by the light of day, and few have survived its fearsome jaws to tell the tale.

Riecoin is quite profitable at the moment as prices have risen to nearly 50 cents recently.
Riecoin is one of the oldest CPU coins out there, it's using the primesr hashing algorithm which is designed to find large prime number constellations.

A test machine i've run over the last month is an older i7 laptop Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4710HQ
It's generated about 160 RIC or about $66 at current prices. Ryzen and any high end Xeon CPU will generate many times that number.

Some pools have issues with block withholding attacks, best pools in my opinion are https://ublock.it/ and http://www.xpoolx.com/.

Hi!
Use the one in my signature. You may find the info, mining and troubleshooting instructions on my thread helpful: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2752724.0
Thanks  Smiley

EDIT: It is the most profitable because it mines coins that use algortithm that were designed with CPU mining in mind

I would like to mine cpu minable coins. I need to know about coins available for cpu mining and with good scope in future.

Thanks in advance  Smiley

I think that the best coin for mining is Litecoin. It has similar blockchain with Bitcoin but it is less complex that’s why it is easier to mine. The other variant is Ethereum. These two coins are the best for mining.

Credits (CRDS) is CPU-only mineable using the new Argon2d algorithm. We also have an airdrop running:

CPU mining wouldnt get you a profit, just make your pc slower. If you really into mining just try to do saving from now so you can build your own mining rig later

with cpu its better to mine monero, all other coins are gpu or asic, so its not profitable anymore with your cpu. So just focus on monero and hope it will be big in 2018-2019 and your gainz will be  much more than 30$ per month.

If you look into monerobenchmarks you will find the various hash rates for different CPU models. Then you can use minecryptonight to find out which coin would give you the best return. Keep in mind this is for CryptoNight coins only.

IMO : Don't try CPU mining.

I've been told that Monero's difficulty is too high now to mine with CPU's. I'm not sure though, anybody want to weigh in on that? I recently also asked this question somewhere else and I was told to mine Vertcoin instead so that's what I'm attempting right now unless other people here suggest otherwise. Reason is, I have a lot of free Microsoft Azure credits every month and I don't really use them much so I figured instead of letting those credits go to waste, I might as well set up a VM and do some CPU mining so that's why I'm also interested in knowing what the best altcoin is to mine with CPU's so I don't totally waste my Azure credits.

Good question. I have been doing CPU mining for a year. Although it is not that profitable on paper, it will be profitable if you pick the right coin to mine. Verium is the coin I am mining using my old Dell workstation. Verium can only be mined using CPU, and Verium token is backed by a strong team with constant updates, which makes verium's value going up a lot recently.

Ugh so many altcoins out there, so many options lol. I was told to go with Vertcoin for CPU Mining but now it sounds like Verium is better, and others say Monero or Magi, and so on. I feel like I'm picking the wrong altcoin now for CPU mining cause no one here has suggested Vertcoin so far. Idk which altcoin to go with for CPU Mining.

CPU mining - three approaches:
1. CPU mine a coin the first few week of its existence if no GPU miner exists to mine it.  Get in early is key.  Monitor the ANN-section for any new coins and consider mining those just launched.
2. If you believe that a coin will go to the moon within the next few months/year then you can mine it with cpu.
3. Find a coin that is cpu-mineable only - like XMG (Magi) - and mine it.
If I were to start cpu mining now, I would mine XMR or BCN with xmr-stak-cpu miner in Linux (with huge pages enabled - this keeps my cpus warm during winter :-)

how can i go about the mining also, i have interest on cpu mining but really dont know how to go about it, can you be of help? i heard is very profitable on the long run. so how do i give it a try?

It's gotta be much too expensive to purchase a computer that can even do 5% of solving calculations.
The competition is too big.
if we need a computer, we better list on online mining mining?

I think monreo and magi coin would do better , in terms of course mining the heating is the prime concern. It depends on the number of cores I think but you should also try GPU mining. Good luck buddy.
