I believe Bitcoin is the balance, not the poison here my friend. Governments and encrypted currency's can co-exist, as long as there are choke-points (exchangers, traders, businesses) , while still holding some type of anonymity and sensibility. The Federal Reserve should not be allowed to print unlimited amounts of money, but we as citizens grant them the permission to correctify highly volatile markets. Bitcoin will keep politicians from all over the world accountable, while opening up a whole new market for businessmen and consumers alike. It doesn't all have to be doom and gloom, things can get better, and the key in this new modern planet is accountability.

I granted that institution no such permission. But if you did, please answer for the graph shown here, on the record of the Federal Reserve:

Ben Bernanke bailed out anonymous foreign banks with US taxpayer money to the tune of billions of dollars, and did not have to answer to anyone for it.

Yet you are opposed to him and his cronies losing their jobs.

This anti-government stance only harms Bitcoins. The community needs to decide whether it want's to be a black market currency with limited notability, or a widely excepted medium with strong support and real growth.

I'm in the business of advocating personal freedom and open markets (but that's redundant Wink ). If such is adversarial to your preferred overlords then so be it.

An anti-government stance doesn't harm Bitcoin. Bitcoin is, in and of itself, an anti-government stance. It is a currency alternative to the US Dollar - and given the fact that the Federal Government has dismayed it's own binding document (Constitution) both in fact and in principle, by raping any semblance of sound money, one could argue that it is in fact the US Gov which has committed the great treason against the United States of America, and that Bitcoin is in fact one of our best opportunities to be patriots - in the proper sense of the word.

How about we all take a dose of STFU. If you are going to debate/support your personal conceptualizations of the politics of bitcoin go to the politics and society forum.

Look, those of us who understand economics obviously understand that widespread adoption of bitcoin is a game-changer and that governments would have a hard time adapting fast enough.  Here's the thing: pointing out that possibility prevents that scenario from ever happening.  Most people are afraid of uncertainty.  Many of them actually like the governments that they have now.  If we are to change the world we have to stop talking about it and just let it happen.

Main problem is that 90%+ of money is issued by private banks for things with very little productive or capital value.  As reserve requirements have neared 0 this caused a tidal wave of debt owed to private banks in the last 10 years.  Nationalize the Fed and issue 0% credit for productive investment.  End and/or tax derivatives.  Pass a 1% Tobin Tax.  These steps will lessen the burden of fictional debt on the economy and vastly increase the standard of living for 99% of the population.

I'll keep my politics out of your economics if you keep your economics out of my politics.

I think a lot of the more hardcore nuts to have anti-government theories regarding Bitcoin need to realize that aspect of Bitcoin is so strongly rooted within just how the program runs, that you do not need to advertise it.  In fact, it would be best to use those efforts in just overall promoting use of the coin itself and where they can use it.

You really need to refine what you call "anti-government". Are such "nuts" really opposed to government in all its facets?

True anarchists are uncommon.

They are uncommon, but more common here than most palaces.
