Ok, there is allot of information out there on Bitcoin wallets.

Can I use these same wallets to record transactions of Altcoin  such as Litecoin or DASH? (just examples).

Or.... do I need a Litecoin wallet or a DASH wallet?

Thanks

Each cryptocurrencies has their own wallets; so you cant use a bitcoin wallet to store litecoin, and vice versa. But if you hold multiple cryptocurrencies, multi-coin wallets exist for that purpose. Try out Exodus wallet[1] for windows or coinomi wallet[2] for android if you're interested.

A secure way to manage different coins is to have a separate wallet for each one.

Coinomi is a multi-asset wallet that supports every cryptocurrency and token you can dream of. Using ShapeShift, they allow easy exchanges between any of the supported assets from within the interface. No identity-linking, no IP or transaction tracking, and your IP is even filtered through their servers for added anonymity. Its easy to verify security with their open source ecosystem.

There is everything you can expect from a multicoin wallet plus two exchange ShapeShift and Changelly for instant exchange of crypto currency and tokens. Very easily and safely handled with a fork coins. The private key does not have to be exported anywhere outside the wallet for these manipulations. Good support, and most of the questions are already explained on the support page. It has 100,000+ satisfied users.

Perhaps you need to consider is a versatile blockchain wallet. I think you can try JAXX wallet, which supports most of the coins on the market. Of course, if most of the coins in your hand are erc20 token, I think myetherwallet can also meet your needs.

If you use Myetherwallet then you could use the same wallet for different coins that are with the ERC20.

Use Coinomi, it has supported many coins https://coinomi.com/#supported-coins. For now, coinomi available on PlayStore for Android user only. Tis wallet will not saving/keep your identity linking, no transactions tracking, no IP association. Never forget to backup your passphrase, so you can recover it on another phone.

As for me it is better to create some wallets for different cryptocurrencies. We see today that the wallets often are attacked by all kinds of con men. So it is better to divide your money and keep them in different places.

your holdings would disappear into thin air if you sent one coin to a different coin wallet.
