the only thing i can say for bitcoin potential is that we are far far away from reaching the begining of it.
for years bitcoin has to be adopted, improved and go up in price before we say now it is some small percentage of its potential.

If the Bitcoin Core team can pull off the Lightning Network implementation and we can get much cheaper and faster micro transactions, then Bitcoin's potential will be limitless. The only thing that is giving BCash and LiteCoin the edge over Bitcoin now, is fast and cheaper transactions.

Once the Lightning Network is in place, these Alt coins will find it hard to compete with Bitcoin. ^smile^

Fiat was never "out of nothing", to be honest I think it's perfectly reasonable to create money off the back of a good business plan based around something considered of value, that money created than being destroyed as the bank-loan or whatever is paid off. What we're really talking about with fiat is money based on obligation (debt / credit). Problem is the system is easily captured. All money is in any case a social artifact. I like bitcoin because it's based on a consensus of value where the number of units hold-still so that value can be reached by said consensus.

well we have a lot of things to look forward to but also there are a lot of concerns too.
for example the scaling needs some solution and needs it fast. things are not looking good for bitcoin on that front with the high fees and all the stuck transactions that need confirmation.

but also we have the growing adoption to look forward to. the mainstream adoption has started this year and it will grow a lot in the following years. and it will introduce bitcoin to many people in a lot of different countries.
we also have new additions to bitcoin such as lightning network, confidential transactions, Atomic Swap and a lot more to come and each of these can increase the potential of growth that bitcoin has by a great deal.

Well many is trying to give their opinions and tell the whole world that bitcoin is a bubble but yet bitcoin still proves them wrong. Bitcoins potential to grow further more is much likely a plane that it taking off.

I used to have different views on bitcoin, but I now honestly think that we're in a huge bubble. So much stupid people investing just for the sake of money itself. Once bitcoin stops growing in price... *pop*

I agree that Bitcoin is hyped at the moment and the price reflects that. There will be a correction soon and the noobs will see what that's like. Bitcoin will go down in relation to fiat currency and people need to get out of the mindset that Bitcoin is a commodity that should be valued against their local fiat. Bitcoin is a currency unto itself and once that's realized then the price against a fiat currency will become irrelevant as it should be. Every currency in history has these swings in the nascent stages, once the mindset matures of the people using it then it will show its true potential.

The noob investors will most likely panic once a correction happens or even when the price dips even just a little. I have noticed that most people don't know that the bitcoin price frequently goes up and down and is very volatile. In fact, not most people understand bitcoin at all yet they choose to buy and invest on it. People are already convinced that it is a bubble yet know nothing about it's market capacity and other features about bitcoin, therefore failing to see it's true potential. The high price has simply attracted them.

I agree that the high price vs. fiat is what is attracting people in the mainstream to Bitcoin currently. And yes, the majority don't know anything about Bitcoin. They still see it as a commodity that their government has told them that it is. Once the noobs realize that it is a currency unto itself then they will realize the full potential of Bitcoin.

I don't know if Bitcoin is going to have a place in our future, I just don't think I can see governments allowing Bitcoin to thrive by not allowing regulation that would hamper the growth of Bitcoin. It's unlike Government, and they'd be going against the ways that they've put themselves in for hundreds of years. A strong federal government doesn't want to give up power, nor does any sort of government.

Bitcoin is a big fuck you to the establishment and it relies on us, rather then some greed crooks. I think gov will try to kill it, and I think they may.

I agree with you that governments will try to kill Bitcoin, and any other cryptocurrency. Though looking at the technology on how Bitcoin is implemented, how would you propose that they would actually succeed? I do believe that Bitcoin will still be a part of our future either with or without governmental support.

This would be a good topic for you all, I just want to know your insights about bitcoin's potential in the future. Any opinions about it?
There's a lot to wait for bitcoin, its price maybe holds at 13-14.5K USD but this is just for a short time and will rise again soon, why? there's a lot of establishments that are on the go on accepting bitcoin, some fast food now is on it and soon shopping malls, this will produce mass holdings for the future use and once the demand goes wild again and bitcoin has its limited supplies. therefore the price will go insane and people holding this coin will surely have the greatest benefit ever in investing into bitcoin and this is not just speculation but a statement!

I do agree with that. Bitcoin is still a little kid in the financial industry and it has reached new heights. Bitcoin will survive many storms and it will continue to survive for another 10 years. As for its value it may stop increasing when it reach 50 million dollars or 100 million dollars; but this will only happen if 1/4 of the earths population are already into bitcoin.

The future potential for bitcoin is great, the only thing that need to do is to make sure everything working smoothly, bitcoin making the payment for global transaction become really easy and with the Japan adoption, every thing has become better, if we attract more users then bitcoin potential will become bigger and better

I think it is pretty much going into the dead end. It is slow, expensive and so many forks will kill it.

Bitcoin is only slow and expensive as fuck as no other blockchain has really seen this kind of massive use. But it needs to adapt now that is true, i hope LN is true and not a myth.

We have the most powerful and the safest database in the world: the blockchain.
We have an asset with a good potential to become a standard for store of value.
And the devs are working on making it again a working coin, despite the ever increasing amount of enemies and people trying to speculate on Bitcoin's demise.

Its potential is huge and that's why people still speculate on its price.
Because of this potential some started making forks in an attempt to steal a piece of the cake, or, if we allow them to do it, the whole cake.
