I would like to try and make an Altcoin as a fun little side project. What are some things I should know before I do? I have a pretty high level understanding of Altcoins. Any specific needs I should try and fill? Again this is just for fun so I don't expect anything from this.... Thanks!

f it's easy to just make an erc20 token through eth, it only takes a few minutes to get it done. You can go to Google to search for relevant tutorials and try to do it.

Creating an Ethereum Token is very easy. Here a guide:
https://steemit.com/ethereum/@maxnachamkin/how-to-create-your-own-ethereum-token-in-an-hour-erc20-verified

But please do not create one if you dont have a seriouse project behind! They are so many useless airdrop tokens arround who never will get value!
