First, you need an online wallet of some kind. I use bittrex.com, but there are others. You can store your bitcoin on there. For actually buying the bitcoin, you can use a card or bank transfer on websites such as coinbase.com

You can invest very little money if you wish to, but because there are transaction fees involved, it would make sense not too trade too often if you invest little.

Be prepared to wait for a while though.  Bittrex currently isn't taking new customers, and Coinbase is taking a long time verifying new customers.

As I know, Bittrex is not taking new customers like ronfoss wrote.

I strongly suggest you to choose good exchanges:

*binance
*poloniex
*bitfinex
* cex

But be in mind, no one can give guarantee for these companies. So, It is better to keep your coins in hardware wallet and you can left some coins for trade in exchanges.

For trade suggest;

It is better to use different stakes for every coins. For example, %20 for more trusted ones, than %10-%8 etc..

This is the system I currently use

First you have to study what is bitcoin and how it works. If you wanna buy bitcoins you can buy with coinbase, cex.io and localbitcoins. I personally recommend those site. If you wanna store large amounts of bitcoins you have to choose safe bitcoin wallet. Hardware wallets are best safest wallets like Trezor or Nano Ledger S. If you can't buy a hardware wallet you can use desktop wallet like Electrum wallet. If you want to store small amount of bitcoins online web wallets are no problem. I prefer blockchain and coinbase are safest online web wallets.

First you have to create bitcoin wallet using one of them. After that you need a account localbitcoins, coinbase or cex.io and you have to add your card and buy bitcoins. After you can send bitcoins to your wallet. If you don't understand anything PM me.

I think you should learn some knowledge about virtual currency.Then understand how the virtual currency works, such as: buy, purse, sell, etc.Of course, you can also study and discuss in BBS.Like stocks, BTC has to invest cautiously.

Just find wallet with you want to work, try to secure it as strong as you will be able to and invest and that's the whole process! Good luck!

Probably easiest would be to create a Coinbase account.
You can start off with buying some partial Bitcoins and a few altcoins.

Then join one of the exchanges and see what is happening.
When you feel you’re ready start with trading 10 or 20% of your portfolio.

Note that you don’t have to trade, you can also just HODL (hold your coins in your wallet)

Since you are new to the bitcoin world. I would suggest you to start with some famous and reliable trading websites.
Maybe you can start with a Coinbase account and buy some bitcoine there.Then join other exchanges sites and see what is happening.

You could also simply register on Blockchain info, buy up to 300 dollars worth of BTC using your Mastercard or Visa and transfer that to an exchange platform.
For this, you do not need ID-verification, so this works instantly.

As to the exchange, I would recommend using Binance. Also, no ID-verification is needed and you can buy/trade crypto up to a limit of 2 BTC.
If you want to do higher amounts, registration is required.

I hope this helps.
