Who are the whales?

Simple question, but I will be more specific:

1) do we know who they are?
2) how are they defined?
3) if they are sellers, how many bitcoins do they own on average? How did they acquire them? When?
4) if they are buyers, how many bitcoins are they buying on average?
5) what do we know about their intentions and behavior?
6) what do they eat for lunch?
7) etc.

It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

I would define anyone who places a 10k+ BTC buy/sell order without limits are a whale.

They probably eat really nice food or like this guy: http://www.vice.com/Fringes/portrait-of-a-russian-oligarch

So many whales, they were doing fine up to a point, but they haven't thought of terminators.
That's why they are surfacing.
