Hi all. I have a Linux Ubuntu PC with the following hardware: CPU: Intel Pentium G2030 3GHZ, 2 core Motherboard: ASUS P8H61-MLXR2.0 Graphics Card: NVIDIA G72 [GeForce 7300 GS] RAM: 4 GB HD: 74.53 GBI don't have electricity costs. - Is it any good to have it mine some altcoin?
- And if yes, which one and why?
Thanks

So this is the work pc eh? ![Tongue](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/tongue.gif) Anyway i'm sorry to say, but your pc is really crapy one. With that processor you can try Magi coin or Nexus CPU pool, but to tell you the truth i dont have any estimate if you earn anything or not.

![Embarrassed](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/embarrassed.gif) Yes you can ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif) ,but it will only cost you too much electricity bill and it may damage your pc. I suggest not to mine with your pc ...

And that "yes, you can", isn't something I can use. So this is the work pc eh? ![Tongue](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/tongue.gif) Anyway i'm sorry to say, but your pc is really crapy one. This is why I thought, maybe some 3rd class coin. I might try the ones you suggest. Thanks ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)

Yes, on paper. However this will not earn you ANYTHING by anything i mean ANYTHING. Not even a cent maybe, it is fairly old and underpowered for new algorithms (or even new coins) but, if you just want to get in and do it for "hobby" sure.

Electroneum seems interesting. I see that it's new, it is very cheap but then again there are billions in circulation. Nevertheless, it's price might grow with all the crypto craziness. I will try it out and see how many units I can produce per week and if it's worth the trouble. Thanks ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)

Honestly, I would not bother with mining on such hardware. 50 cents a day are not worth the trouble

Mining with this computer is wasting time and wasting electricity in the empty. For gpu mining you still need serious cards like rx 580 or gtx 1070 for example. If you live in a country where there electricity is not too expensive, the investment in mining hardware will surely pay off.

Honestly, I would not bother with mining on such hardware. 50 cents a day are not worth the trouble It's not about 50 cents per day. It's about gathering a handful of coins that might be worth something in the future. But I surely see your point.

If you are poolmining, you will get 1°/°°°°° of a coin in some years.

That motherboard has 4 PCIe slots. One is 16x and the rest are 1x.
Throw away that crappy GPU you got there and buy some RX 570s and plug them in using some USB risers.
Also get a bigger PSU.
With the current GPU you can't mine anything. Same with the CPU.

Seems this is your working PC right ?? Yes you can mine, but it won't give you any considerable profit. and also it would take too much time to mine. But since you have mentioned you don't have any electricity cost, gave a try and check whether it is okey with you.

Don't bother trying to mine on that GPU - if it even HAS CUDA cores, it has so few that you're not going to earn anything on any coin.
The CPU might be able to mine something like Monero, but it's going to have a VERY low hashrate at best and will NOT be profitable unless you have free electric.
The machine would be a viable base to build a riser rig around, using RECENT GPUs to mine on, if you upgrade the PS to handle them.

No, you shouldn't. No component in your pc is designed for such a hard decoding task. You will only expose your PC to great damage with a little reward.

Using MINERGATE allows you to mine alot of smaller coins for example and you can see results fast to see if its worth it. Don't be discouraged.
