It can only add a block if one is found in that time.  None were found from 9am onwards looks like.

That's pretty awful but with BTC diff going so high don't be that surprised.   we had 17 hours to find a block on slush pool the other day I think it was.   It always relys on hash power of the pool and luck.
   switch your worker to pps and you can know every day ahead of time what payment you get

Whats the solo time to find a block now, I think worst case must be 50 years. Even the guild big as it is, can take more then several hours apparently.  That's just how they designed BTC to be, for security I guess

The network as a whole has had periods of 60-90 minutes to find a single block.  The shifts you were looking at were still open (AKA:  Still getting paid for blocks).  By the time they closed they had 5+ blocks.  Later that day we had shifts with 20 blocks.  Variance is quite unpredictable .


FYI:  The longest round I'm aware of for any pool was between 11 and 12x difficulty.  That would be ~350 million shares at today's difficulty.  This post was made before the pool even had 200m shares since its last block (~6x diff).

Believing old luck has an effect on future luck is called gambler's fallacy. It's some sort of weird superstition, i.e. wrong. Wikipedia has a page for this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gambler%27s_fallacy

Believing bad luck never happens, is there a name for that? How can we convince people that bad luck will happen naturally and should be expected? Any good internet resources for this?

What about those who believe they are born with bad luck and if luck is involved then it will always be bad for them. It seems often impossible to convince them of anything else.
