Sup everyone. I'm from NYC. Sort of new to BTC. I've herd about it in passing but had no idea how hard it would actually be to get just a couple of coins lol. I'd like to buy at least 2, off of one of the trusted members/vendors here just to get my feet way.
Peace

Send cash (or a U.S. postal money order) to my P.O. Box and I'll send you some bitcoin.

Use bitcoin.de or any other exchange, that's the safest way to buy.
Just make sure to always use escrow, if you buy here on the forums.

Check out these guys, http://bitcoinnyc.org/http://www.meetup.com/bitcoinNYC/We are a volunteer group of Bitcoin enthusiasts who want to help foster and grow the NYC Bitcoin community. We host discussions every Thursday at 6:00 PM, with each week focused on a different topic. You can stay up-to-date with event times and locations by joining us on Facebook or Meetup.
We look forward to establishing a vibrant community here in NYC, and hope to see you all at our next meeting! An interesting article about bitcoin trading in union square park: http://www.coindesk.com/nyc-park-becomes-real-life-market-for-bitcoin-trading/I personally use coinbase.com for all of my buying and selling.

Make sure and use escrow even if you think you are trading with a trusted member. Also, I would highly recommend JohnK escrow as he is highly trusted to reduce your risk of being scammed

Always use escrow, Always! Edit: food for thought, 300 BTC stolen just recently in a group buy. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=262566.0

Thanks for this, a meet up group was pretty much exactly what I was looking for. I would use one of the websites/exchanges but between the fees, set up times, non-ease of use, etc... They all just seem like headaches. Unless your really looking to invest in/get into Bitcoin heavily.

Couldn't I just trade in person and you know sort of take my money back, and maybe a little compensation package if they tried to scam lol

I'm at least glad you guys seem to ostracize/identify posters fairly quickly when you find out their scammers
