I got an interesting email from Quora recently:

Quote
Question added to the topic "Bitcoin"

The question "Ripple: Why did Jed McCaleb leave Ripple/OpenCoin?" was added to the topic "Bitcoin".

View question: http://www.quora.com/login/auto_login?...

Thanks,
The Quora Team

The link has some kind of auto-login token, so I didn't include the whole thing, but when I clicked on it, I got redirected to this: http://www.quora.com/Why-cant-you-delete-a-Quora-question?__snids__=152503989&__nsrc__=4

Apparently, someone asked the question, then tried to delete it. Maybe Jed didn't really leave, or maybe he did but someone would like to keep it quiet . . .

At this point, it's just a rumor, but I'm curious if anybody can confirm or deny this rumor.

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

While Jed McCaleb is still actively participating, Stefan Thomas is now OpenCoin's CTO, managing a team of eight developers. We are actively recruiting additional developers.

a critical point in the Ripple ecosystem are the gateways. Ripple gateways act like exchanges for Bitcoin. they are interfaces to the regulated world like the exchanges for Bitcoin are interfaces to the regulated world. because of the intermediate character of Ripple units of account (XRP) gateways (exchanges) are more important for the growth of Ripple than for Bitcoin because Bitcoin can also serve as a storage of value until regulation issues are solved. XRP might as well serve as a storage of value but this was not the design background of XRP. XRP act as the engine which guaranteed the operation of Ripple and because of this reason they are "premined" but people don't understand it.

apparently jed didn't leave ripple labs just for the sake of moving on like what that wired article said. there's a video interview of him saying he had some disagreements with someone in ripple labs. the audio is not really clear so it would help for more to listen to it. it feels like jed was screwed over by someone in the company.

video link here:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQ2DCKLHaQs&t=461

discussion at xrptalk where i found the video is here:  https://xrptalk.org/topic/1235-jed-mccaleb-talks-about-btc-ripple-and-why-he-left/

'got jed?' giveaway in support for jed mccaleb located here:  https://xrptalk.org/topic/1243-got-jed-giveaway/

feel free to participate.
