And you'll have 16 cores at 3.8 Ghz Unfortunately each of those chips is $1.9k a peice.

On the other hand, if you go AMD you can get much lower cost chips.  So for example here is an 8 core, 3.1Ghz chip for $345, which you could slap on this board.  Unfortunately it only has 2x 16x PCI express slots though. But definitely cheaper then intel in terms of CPU strength.

(although remember Intel does more per core then AMD, so an 8x Intel will be about as fast as 16x AMD cores - but probably much more expensive)

Vouch.  Easy to install, setup, and runs really quiet.  Mine has been running since January and does not groan, growl, or make any noise.  Watch the threads on the rad, they are not well tapped and absolutely will strip out if you go 1/4 turn too far.

I put some hideously ugly Noctua's on the H80.  I put the Corsair fans on my mining rig, plugged into a molex they move a _lot_ of air for a 120mm.

No.
Every 2 (or 4) socket system must use exactly the same CPUs. One of the reasons is that both CPUs must have access to all memory and must be able in-validate each other's cache data.

sadly thats just true on multithreaded integer operations (xeon e5-4650 vs opteron 6386SE - 3000€ vs 1400€)

if we are talking about single threaded integer operations the xeon is nearly twice as fast as the opteron.

in nearly every other operation the xeon is 20-40% faster than the opteron.


EDIT: AND Core i7 dont support Multi CPU Enviroments. If you want more than one CPU, you need Xeons

Is it really true that it's two times faster?
If I used a couple of PCIe splitters so I can run 4 GPUs as well as one (or two, if I need to dual boot) of those, how much extra voltage would I use?
(do those use as much energy as a GPU)
