I'm using cgminer and I'm thinking about mining on Galaxy MP.
I need to setup my mining software to connect with Galaxy.

Examples I saw on the site was:
cgminer -o galaxy-mining.com:3333 -u username.worker1 -p password

but all other other pools using stratum I have seen include "stratum+tcp://" before the address:
cgminer -o stratum+tcp://Pool-Name.com:port# -u username.worker1 -p password

What is the difference- why would a person use one over the other?

stratum+tcp:// means that CGMiner won't look for a deprecated getwork connection, and instead will just connect with stratum.

As long as there isn't a getwork server on the exact same port, it shouldn't matter, but it's best to use stratum+tcp:// just in case.
