If I scroll down on livecoinwatch I can see market prices on different exchange houses.


TKN/ETH on Bittrex 506$

ETH/USD on Cex.io 740$

ETH/BTC on Qryptos 600$


Difference between ETH before or after: x/ETH vs ETH/x ?

you are asking the difference between x/ETH and ETH/x,right ?
x/ETH : it mean how much 'x' if we value it using ETH.
ETH/x : it mean how much 'ETH' if we value it using 'x'.

for example :

ETH/USD : $736 on GDAX.

that mean the price for every ETH in USD on GDAX around $736.
but on coinmarketcap we can see something like this :

TKN/ETH

it does not matter because the difference between ETH/USD and TKN/ETH are only in term of the value itself.
when we are using ETH/USD,we are valuing ETH using USD and vice versa.
and when we are using TKN/ETH,we are valuing ETH using TKN and vice versa.

USD market : 1 ETH = $736 USD and $736 USD = 1 ETH
TKN market : x TKN = 1 ETH and 1 ETH = x TKN

but if I sell 1 ETH I only get 773$. This is not USD/ETH : 773$. It is USD/ETH : 0.00129300   (1$ gives me 0.00129300 ETH)


TKN/ETH: 506$    does this mean 1TKN gives me 506$ worth of ETH but to know exactly how much they give me I need to know how much their ETH/USD is ?

first of all when you check the price on some website like coinmarketcap.com you need to also check how often do they update their rates, in case of this site it is 5 minutes.
i am not familiar with the other one you mentioned but check it out yourself.

this doesn't make any sense! when you are trading on a ETH/BTC market you are trading between the two pairs called BTC and ETH, there is no $ in the middle.
the $600 you see is a conversion that the website you are checking is doing for you based on average bitcoin price which was updated probably minutes ago, which is why it is different from ETH/USD price which is the real $ value.

that is because when you sell, you sell to those who are willing to buy from you (the bids) and they are not willing to pay more than $773
and when you buy you are buying from those who are selling (asks) and they are not willing to sell to you lower than $895

instead of buying or selling right away, you can also place an order to go into queue like the rest and wait and hope for your order to be filled.

The difference that they have is the own price that they set to the pairs that you are going to trade. But it is different, if they are not like this "USD/ETH" Dont trade it, because you are going to lose money in there.
Only trade with those pairs who are Usd/eth, otherwise, dont touch it

For me this is counter intuitive: People are not willing to buy for more than 773$ but at the same time others are not willing to sell for lower than 895 $ ?!!

The prices are almost different in all the exchanges, you should know that, and you can do arbitrage between all the other exchanges in order to make profit on that scenario,.

Just buy on X exchange and resell on X exchange.

Maybe you don’t want to sell it for less than 895 units of whichever currency, but still buyers aren’t willing to pay more than 773 units. But maybe you haggle and settle on e.g. 800. The same thing happens on bitcoin exchanges: when the price is low enough for a buyer or high enough for a seller, a trade takes place. Except that the exchange takes its cut as well.

You can track the most general market price on coinmarkercap. There you will see the fluctuation of the market is updated in the most timely.

if you are seeing it on coinmarketcap.com that thing can be considered as a similiar thing.
because coin market will only tell you about the currency that you are looking for,
when you are hitting ETH and try to find out about its marketplace and pair,
you will see it that way.

ETH/USD : mean 1 ETH worth for around xUSD.

USD/ETH : 0.001293 ETH , it mean every $1 USD you will get that much,

that is why on coinmarketcap.com you will see this :

USD/ETH : $773.

they are trying to help the traders doin the calculation,

and

TKN/ETH :it mean how much TKN in value to get 1 ETH. (you will see it if you are trying to figure out what pairs that ETH traded for and on coinmarketcap you will see something like this)
