There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

No not yet, the fluctuations are still way too much and no one knows, after 2016 it may be a different story though  Wink

Merchants yes.
Well merchants who deal in goods that largely cost less than 1 BTC.

Exchanges I think not since a mBTC is only worth a dime.

I personally believe everyone should switch to mBTC.
If not now, once the value has stabilized.
From an investor stand point I think it would actually help as micro transactions would become more regular.

My only fear is that it might hurt LTC.

No need to switch to mBTC. 1 BTC will never worth thousands of USD
