Over the last five days I've lost over 10GB of free space on my hard drive. It all started when I got into BTC. Many of you would tell me it's a virus but I don't think so, I've checked and rechecked. Has any of you experienced something like this before? Any ideas on how to fix the problem?

Thanks for the quick reply bitcoindigi. I can't really find what you say but I'll keep trying more focused. The thing is I'm constantly losing space at an alarming rate. Should I think it's because that blockhain size you mention? The more it grows the more space I'll lose? Is THAT big?

Yes, the blockchain is really that big.
But there are light wallet clients like Electrum and Multibit that don't require the whole blockchain, use one of those if you need more free hard drive space.

You mean "10 GB Hard Drive" instead of "10 Hard Drive GB"? I thought I got it right but if that's not the case I apologise, english is not my native language  Tongue

Every blockchain you download will cost you a lot of space. Keep in mind that other coins which are younger and have smaller chains will use up less space than BTC.

Yeah, lol. My brain read it: "10 GB Hard Drive gone", then I realized, Who has a 10 GB Hard Drive anymore? An 8 GB Flash drive is about $8.

Just for clarification - the blockchain will grow in size even if there is no growth in the number of Bitcoin users or transaction volume.

Here's a graph with historical and up-to-date blockchain size. https://blockchain.info/charts/blocks-size -- You can see the blockchain's growing ~700MB/month. If Bitcoin continues to grow in users and transactions, the rate of growth will increase. Aside light clients, there are other solutions being worked on regarding this issue.

Bitcoin holds some other files with the blockchain, which accounts for it being a GB or two over the size of the actual blockchain.
