I just picked these up on Amazon.  So far love them.
They have an LED to let you know they are on and have 3 different power connections.  SATA, 6 Pin and Molex built on the riser.

Can you do 6 pin directly to the 6 pin peripheral on the PSU?  If you can you use a 2 or three way splitter to hook up multiple?

6pins are best i think. i use them since 6 months and never failed. running as well with first setup. and also you can use pcie power splitters to feed needed power on risers
