if i can my mine at 5GH/S would that be good or bad for the pool?

At that rate, it's insignificant if you look at the big picture. Even if you join a pool with 5 Th/s, it really wouldn't hurt the pool; it might increase the chance of the pool finding a block.

It's not really going to make a difference to a pool.  The pool will find blocks at a very slightly faster speed.
