Linode kicked me out The best bet may be a less popular company since they probably kick people off when other users complain their droplets slow. Less users means less likely for someone to complain.

There are 100s of us here ...we can just pool together and rent out some small VPS companies.

Only two choices - keep signing up for VPS and milking them until account frozen or pay up for a dedicated server. THe first method more time-consuming but also more profitable. Dedicated servers expensive.

Dedicated servers expensive. You can't milk VPS, they will cut you almost instantly ! Sometimes I could not even finish downloading the blockchain and was already suspended... You can buy a server off ebay for example. There are cheap ones but you need to choose well and have space for them as they are known to be noisy and generate heat.

Why the GetWork protocol not implemented in XPM? Is it hard to achieve?

I have been looking into bulk buying dedicated servers, however, to get the full discount you need to hire them for a full 1 year Without the full discount I can get a Xeon E3-1230v2 (4 core @ 3.3GHz - turbo at 3.7GHz) , 16GB for $80 each per month if we bulk buy. If you can keep it a full 1 year then get a 10% rebate at the end. I have one of these running at the moment and get between 1.1 and 1.2 chains per day. With the current difficulty I put this down as breakeven at best so not really worth the investment. Anyone got anything cheaper or more cost effective?

Of course, but no one will tell you I will though, at this price you are better taking EC2 spot instances !

True, but it's still cheaper than the server he's renting ! Now the fact is that difficulty has stabilized so people keep on mining. The horrible ypool gets 20% of the blocks, where are mining the others for profit ? Are they all desktop computers or are we missing the right vps providers ? I've been wondering about that quite a lot lately...

I've been wondering about that quite a lot lately... There's a fair number of normal home users who have a handful of desktops, then there are a few people with massive server farms, either through work or that they own themselves (think 100-1000 machines). I think that makes up the lions share. Some people bought VPS's on monthly plans and are still running them (probably already paid for), but dont know how profitable they are anymore.
