Yes, this currently is the issue which has been around
for quite some time and because of it threatens the
long term viability and survival of bitcoin.

I was being charged $250 for a $900 transaction, which
defeats the purpose of using bitcoin in the first place.

I agree , presently the transaction fees are pretty much higher than expected. If BTC has to remain consistent and bring in more and more volume considering its growth, then this issue of higher fees should be sorted out as soon as possible. I see many of bTC users get angry because of this issue and also do not participate in doing nay transaction next time, they would prefer a different alt coin with lower fees.

To be honest, the issue of high transaction fee has been there for years, yet the price is still going up. Too many drama happening around Bitcoin which ultimately slowed down the upgrade process of Bitcoin.

Blockchain is not charging any fees, you can pick how much you want to pay the fee. Sure, you have to pay a higher fee to get faster confirmation time, but it isn't really necessary unless you can wait. I mean, it is a problem nowadays but we will get over it soon.

The fees are high overall regardless of the wallet you're using. It seems like the mempool is getting empty once again so I suggest waiting 48 hours at least, switch to a SegWit wallet like Electrum and then try again.

Yeah right I am planning to transfer some bitcoin to our local wallet and convert to fiat but when I saw the transaction fees I decided to hold it and wait till the transaction fees goes lower than before. I don't know how block chain decide their fees but I hope developers will look into it and make some adjustments otherwise people will switch to other wallet

Blockchain isn't charging any expenses, you can pick the amount you need to pay the charge. Certainly, you need to pay a higher charge to get speedier affirmation time, however it isn't generally vital unless you can pause. That is to say, it is an issue these days yet we will get over it soon.

$250? How much fees have you paid for that? I mean, satoshis per byte.

That is an incredible rate, but post in here the TX, otherwise you are just lying about that.

You can just change the fee that they're charging you, you know. It's not like they have a locked in rate, only suggested rates that are on par with the times that they say when it comes to confirmations. They're charging a lot because the network has a bunch of transactions with incredibly high fees right now, and it is trying to make it so your transactions will go through at a relatively fast pace.

Set it lower if you want to have lower fees but don't expect for your transactions to be quick. It's not blockchain.info's fault, it's the fault of the network.

About a Bitcoin transfer fee was $ 36, why is Bitcoin falling? not fast (if you pay a low fee), not free and not anonymous. Those who want to stay anonymous have to pay an extra fee.
