So I'm trying to figure out which exchanges I should join. I've been looking at the exchange list on the wiki and there's so many to choose from.

Does your country of residence make a difference for what exchange you use? Which exchanges do you all use? Anybody have any good horror stories, or any other stories of great customer service or something?

Do most people just use one exchange or a few?

Even if you use Bitcoin through Tor, the way transactions are handled by the network makes anonymity difficult to achieve. Do not expect your transactions to be anonymous unless you really know what you're doing.

It depends what currency you are using.

EUR -> bitstamp
USD -> mt.gox

Usually, you find one that is good, and you stick with it.

I started out with Localbitcoins and that worked fine (and fast) but I ended up with pretty bad prices. Then I started using MtGox, which was pretty slow because of the bank transfer times - about 5 days. My most recent bank transfer was almost 3 weeks ago no, so I can't really recommend MtGox any more. I'm in the UK.

I have a bank account in UK and did a transfer to BTC-e, it's been a while already.
Is it often that it take 3 weeks ?

It's a total waste when it take that long because the price of bitcoin can go up and the % difference can be more important than a high price on localbitcoins.

This is the first time it takes this long.
And true, but sometimes the price also goes down though. My plan is to put a pretty large amount of fiat on MtGox, and then use that when opportunity arises.

localbitcoins is good if you are in a big city ...
Otherwise, you should try the forum: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=53.0 for wire transfer

Depends what you mean by "best". I think that Mt. Gox and BTC-e have the best rates, but a lot of BTC-e's funding options don't work in the US. When (if) Bitinstant comes back online you should check that out too.

In terms of easiness, I use VirWoX because you can use debit cards. It takes 2-3 days for your first transaction but after that it's instant. The rate is like $.49 plus 3.5% (USD) but it goes down the more you buy. Only thing that sucks is that there's a transaction limit, but you can request to have it removed. I haven't made a request because I haven't had to, but I'm guessing that you have to be a business or otherwise have some good reason.

Are you referring to bitcoin or altcoin exchanges? Altcoin = cryptsy, bit coin =mtgox.com. Also, you can also trade with forum members with escrow.
