Hi all, Just thought I'd start a thread on how not to get your bitcoin stolen and do this by learning from others. It's all on our minds is our coins secure but we can do simple things to ensure they stay safe. So any suggestions and stories on how yours got stolen would be great. Sorry if it brings up bad memories.
Many thanks for your time Lex

You need to store your crypto currencies in paper wallets or in hardware wallet and keep the private key in a secured offline drive then your coins will be safe forever. If you store your coins in online wallets there are high possibility of you will get stolen.

Majority of the users are using paper wallet . Because it is safe and secured in your money. But in terms and conditions is administration should control your wallet. This is also one of the security that means if any problem in your paper wallet. Admin should help to troubleshoot the problem. In many online wallets are not safe it is easy to hack your wallet account. So better to use paper wallet is the best option.

For wallet password preservation, we must be cautious. Because in the blockchain world, the private key to any of your wallets must be dangerous as long as the second person knows it. I recently purchased a hardware wallet

by trusting one of the old and (seemingly) trustable exchanges called bittrex.
everything was fine and nobody had any complaints, their rules were clear and a lot of people were using it. some day they decided to rob their users so they changed their rules in a way to close lots of accounts and block their funds. and they did that to thousands of users who trusted them!

It's not happened yet but a few times I've nearly come close to falling for phishing scams. I always check the URL and make sure never to click on any links that I don't know what they are. If you are sensible it's hard to get your funds stolen.

Thanks guys Great tips, its a nightmare keeping all the passwords and trying to vary them. I think once it becomes even more mainstream then there will be more chances of it being attacked. I'll still speak to people who don't know what a bitcoin is so it's really early days.

You won't get your bitcoins stolen because every wallet are secured in their own ways. Private keys keep them safe. You can only lose your bitcoin if you sent it to a wrong address or traded without knowing risks or what you are doing. Or you unfortunately forgot your key. Your bitcoins will be lost forever. Transactions are irreversible that is why you need to check every transactions you make. Also avoid scams. That all that I can think of.

Based on my own experience, I am fortunate enough not to have lost any Bitcoin due to any involuntary means of a grab or very deceptive means. I lost Bitcoin because I trusted some cryptocurrency traders whom I trusted too much and all of them turned out to be either scammers or just an outright failure. I also lost some Bitcoin while participating in the rev-share type of programs similar to MyPayingAds and its sister crypto program. Had i not touched my Bitcoin at that time and never invested into those traders and programs I could already be a multi-millionaire (based on my local standards and not internationally). Unfortunately, I experienced for two times the popular phishing scam with my MEW accounts. It is very sad that MyEtherWallet don't want to improve their own security measures and just left members on their own's fault whenever a phishing program can struck anyone. The second one just recently happened partly because I became careless in downloading a wallet from as supposed coin which turned out to be a phishing trap.

if you want to keep your Bitcoins safe, please use either Paper Wallet or Hardware Wallet. About the private key - keep it safe anyway you feel would be safe.

I got my bitcoin stolen because I was naive and put much trust in Ponzi schemes. Three different ponzi schemes went away with the bitcoin I invested in them. The last ponzi scheme pained me much, I saw the signs after reading many online reviews but I still went ahead and invested. Lost my bitcoin I invested the following the day as the website was no longer accessible. That was the last day I promised to stay off any sort of fast money yielding schemes.

So far I know about this issue, if you are able to keep your Bitcoin address properly then you can be able to recover your stolen Bitcoin. but if you lose your account then you have a little bit chance to get back it.
that's why keep safe your Bitcoin in a wallet where your stock should remain safe. but I hadn't such type of experience in my Bitcoin career.

James Grimmelmann, a professor at the University of Maryland who focuses on internet law, reminds consumers of Mt Gox is unlikely to be lucky. Because they do not have many opportunities to get the money back. "They may be able to file a lawsuit, but unfortunately the virtual currency is minimally regulated and no single government guarantees,

This is one of the major drawback about bitcoin, you can't get back your currency once stolen. It's humble request to everyone, please secure your wallet as much as possible. There are lots example in my network, those have lost their virtual currency in initial period and there are no such a regularity where we can register a complain against them.

Ive never been hack and i dont want to be hack. Mostly now i could read a lot of stories and also my friends told me that mostly of them get hack and someone also said that he losses his private key of his wallet in his computer . Well that cases will mostly impossible to get back your bitcoin, at first it is your fault because you are not taking good care of your wallet or bitcoin and second is hackers can penetrate you because your password or you is too weak abouut it and not thinking about security.

The most reliable means is to use cold storage wallets. If you keep bitcoins for a long time, then cold wallets are what you need, do not show anyone the private key. Make many copies of it. For a long period, do not use exchanges and on-line purses.

Don't ever shares your privates key, be careful with phising sites link. Do not keep privates key in public computer. Try to protect your email with strong password. Some hacking tool are targeting to brute email acct which this one of accessing to some exchanges sites.
