On Saturday Internet Archive, a non-profit digital library, announced that it received $1 mln in bitcoins from Pineapple Fund.

Pineapple Fund is a Bitcoin-only charity established in early December 2017, whose ultimate goal is to give $86 mln worth of bitcoin to various nonprofit organizations.

The charity has already given 657 BTC, about $8.5 mln, to 13 organizations, which focus on different areas, including providing clean water to sub-Saharan Africa, building technology for universal healthcare and improving the treatment of age-related diseases and others.

Seems like the fund's got quite a bit of attention (and applications) since it was launched. All good projects, in my opinion, although I would wonder what its requirements for accountability might be, since they've just gone ahead and given the Bitcoin in full! Not a criticism at all, just wonder if the recipients are required to liquidate immediately, or if they could be tempted to sit on the Bitcoin and hope to gain more from (possible) future price appreciation.

This latest donation anyway benefits anyone who's ever relied on the wayback machine to retrieve pages otherwise forever lost. Whoever said charity was dead with crypto, yeah?

This is good publicity for Bitcoin as well as the Pineapple Fund. Thankfully, because the amounts involved are huge, transaction fees do not play a role here. If the organization was established only in December 2017, it has done well so far. It has already met 10% of its target, or $8.5Mn already in just 20-25 days.

This is really cool. I hope others early adopters could do the same. It would be better them just try to manipulate the market.
Invest in good things that make the Bitcoin name something that we all could be proud of.

This is indeed a very noble cause. I am hoping that the fund would also be active in sourcing more contributions from other people who can be interested to be philanthropist with their help. We need more people to be giving and caring so that we can all uplift the name of Bitcoin and make it more humane and not just another distanced figure which people could not relate with. Good to know that charity is also very much alive with the use of Bitcoin. There should be an app for this that can enable anyone with Bitcoin to donate even small amounts and make the transactions free of any charge.

I did not see this posted in the article, but for anyone who is considering donating, you should know that there is currently a 3-to-1 donation matching going on. This means that for every dollar/bitcoin you donate to the Internet Archive some "supporter" (which I do not see mentioned in their website by name) will be donating 3 times your donation in return. The organization is known for archiving websites that contain valuable information that could potentially go down or that have already gone down. This includes information that could be vital to many aspects of part history or future research and I encourage everyone to help as much as possible, as I have been involved with them before and they are great to work with.

The signature campaign posters adding useless redundant fluff to their posts to reach their minimum word count are lowering my IQ.
