This question already asked many times and majority answers are :
2. Bitcoin is currency, especially since Satoshi said so in the white paper

Satoshi said lots of things but few of them hold water and a currency needs to have a stable
price to facilitate the exchange of goods and no one would argue that BTC is stable and had
the price remained <$10.00 then this forum would be almost empty apart from a few egg heads
like me.

Mining is CPU-wars and Intel, AMD like it nearly as much as big oil likes miners wasting electricity. Is this what mankind has come too.

I don't know  which one is the real truth .

Its initial purpose was to be a cryptocurrency, just like the USD, but better.
However, after people saw its gigantic growth potential, people started investing in it purely for their own profits, thus turning it in a gambling currency of speculation.

Thus, the answer to your question: Both is true. It's a gamble what the price will do next and it's a lot of speculation resulting in either its growth or fall.
