I already have a few bitcoin wallets but looking at buying some XRP.

where is the best place to get xrp and store it online?

you can purchase altcoins like xrp in exchanges like bittrex,poloniex etc,i personally using bittrex because it has the most btc volumes compare to the smaller exchanges.

Yes, you can buy those ripples on the best exchanges, but do not use bittrex, just avoid it like the plague.
And for storing them, just try to store them all on your ledger wallet, if you do not have one. Just buy it, they are not expensive, and you are going to be safe.
