but the internet here is horrendous. can someone download a couple movies for me? how would i get them? how long would it take?

Movies through a legal service? Also, why not just order some DVDs, mail is the only way other than the internet really. Can get really cheap DVDs now a days. http://www.gohastings.com/

i think a useful question is where are you? maybe someone on here lives not far from you or within driving distance to bring the movies to you?
