Where is the best place these days to buy a fixed amount of BTC per week in USD; e.g. $10/week for an extended period?  I don't know the status of mt gox at the moment.

Secondly, are there any groups or threads on bitcointalk.org that arrange this for buyers?

Thanks

If you are in the US, I would recommend Coinbase.  If you are elsewhere, Bitstamp seems to be the way to go for now.

Be careful trading with strangers over the internet.  This forum is a scammer's paradise.

I used https://bitcoinbuilder.com when it first came out; worked pretty well. It's MtGox-only, but you could ask Josh for the source.

Are you able to transfer the funds in advance and just have them converted to BTCs on a schedule, or are you looking for a way to have bank transfers on a schedule which are then converted to bitcoins when the transfer completes?

I suspect back when Mt. Gox had supported the ability to place unfunded buy orders you could then schedule Dwolla to send funds on a recurring schedule.  So then every time the funds hit Mt. Gox the open BUY order would instantly convert those USDs to BTCs.

But now that Mt. Gox no longer supports Dwolla (after FinCEN seized the account), I'm unsure of any other method that would be similar.

Coinbase sounds like the best option as you don't have to keep your funds on an exchange (less counterparty risk) but you will pay higher fees.

i actually use my coinbase wallet as a mobile wallet. easy access from my phone and laptop, yet secure enough with 2factor that it's worth my risk to keep the amount I do on there

Depending on your location, you may find a local seller at http://localbitcoins.com who would be happy to supply you on a regular basis.

No problem.  Any chance you're located anywhere near Chicago?  I'm listed in the Chicago suburbs on localbitcoins and would be happy to assist you.

If you aren't nearby, but have a friend or family member who is then I could meet up with them and you could just make sure that you've supplied them with the money necessary.

Coinbase offers recurring transactions.

That's to authorize a certain amount of bitcoins to be pulled by another Coinbase user/merchant.   I don't believe it will buy coins if there aren't enough in the wallet at the time the send is attempted.

I have since this posting date been able to make a few small purchases successfully with coinbase.  The verification process is a little long, and am still awaiting my full permissions, but I feel totally fine making small weekly purchases of bitcoins at coinbase, which was my question here.  Thanks everyone.

just finished writing a website that does dollar cost averaging for you: https://coinsavers.net

It works like a remote control for Bitstamp, no dollars or bitcoins ever pass through my site so not much trust in me is needed Smiley

Other exchanges can be added if there's interest!

PS: pricing model is a first stab, whining might help
