This looks like a pretty solid deal when you look at megahash per entire server cost. I don't know the exact numbers though because I'm not sure what is considered a reasonable speed to get out of a 5870.

I'm getting around 440MH/s out of mine.  I can't remember where I saw it, but there was a chart comparing MH/s, cost, and power consumption and the 5870 is THE card to get for MH/s vs. Power used.

=      $1,153
(440x4)/1153=1.53 megahash per dollar(full server cost)

with 5830
5830   $110x4
=        $833
(330x4)/833=1.58

So as long as you go the absolute cheapest route 5830 rig at 110 is better but not much so. If you add a case or more to the cost at all the 5870 at 190 will probably overcome the 5830.

^^ Yeah that sounds about right.  But when you throw in power draw into the mix, then the 5870 edges out the 5830 setup.  

5830 = 310MH/s @ 175w
5870 = 440MH/s @ 188w

40+% bump in MH/s rate for only a 7% bump in power consumption.  Just going by memory since I can't find the chart someone posted a while back, so my numbers may be off.

The 5870 doesn't get even near 440mh/s at stock speeds.

You would have to overclock it *a lot* putting the power consumption to roughly 250-300 watts.

A 5830 doesn't get 310-320 at stock either. That's the absolute maximum with the voltage and core frequency sky high (past 1ghz).

Yeah, like I said my numbers may be off, but the ratios should still be applicable.  I was just going by what I have my 5830 and 5870 running at.

I went with the best possible conditions to show the cheapest scenario. Also just because its not in stock now doesn't mean its gone forever at 110 I mean I just bought a 5830 last week at 110 on newegg.
