was kidnapped while leaving his office in Kiev's Obolon

So let me get this right....
With all the mess happening in Ukraine, a Russian guy runs an exchange there, with probably millions $ in BTC and he just takes strolls in the morning?

This sounds so unreal.

Funny that they used a Mercedes Benz but not an S-klasse, a Vito.

I mean while this is sad and all, this dude did have it coming for what he did as if what you say is true, him running BTC-E that means he stole a lot of Bitcoin from innocent people and then used it to run his own exchange and now he's doing it again. Talk about scum of the earth.

I will agree with some here and say that it is a little weird that he is taking strolls, maybe he wanted to be kidnapped?EXIT SCAM?Huh?

There's not much love between the Ukrainians and the Russians.
It may sound unreal but kidnappings happen around the world every day. Ukraine is one of the poorer European countries, people are looking for alternative income and crime provides that. Going after a Russian is a double win.
Vito has sliding door, easy to grab a person from the street and throw in. S class gets more attention and is harder to steal.
