All users must verify their ID, although no Fiats are traded.
In dependence of their privacy policy, I don't entrust them my sensitive data and I think, they will loose many customers except they will modify their policies, which give them allowness to do with our data, what they want and give them out to third party without clear rules.

At least they give ample warning long before the new measures go into effect.

Actually i've been trying to get verified, but the process seems to require a webcam and i don't have one. I tried using the camera on my phone but the verification system doesn't recognize it and insists on a webcam. I've heard this complaint from many people and i hope Polo will hear us and do something about it. How hard can it be to allow taking ID pictures with a phone cam?

simply log in once on another laptop with webcam until you take a photo of you. then log off, clear cookies and log back in your normal computer

Yeah, this is a real problem. I have several PCs with built-in webcams and none of them worked with Coinbase's verification system. Built-in webcams have incredibly low quality, so it's usually necessary to use the mobile app with a smartphone camera. It's almost insulting that Poloniex can't seem to implement this.

I wouldn't log in on any computer that I didn't strongly trust. Keyloggers are everywhere these days. I would recommend buying a high-definition webcam off Amazon for like $50 instead.

i think for one photo is enough a cheap webcam for 10$. Also you can log in from your smartphone/tablet and take a photo with front camera

If you read the post above, you can't do that. Poloniex won't recognize the camera. In time, Poloniex will probably release a mobile app that is compatible with smartphone cameras like Coinbase did, but in the meantime, it's easiest just to get a decent webcam.

If you can find a webcam for $10, I doubt it's much higher quality than a built-in cam. I'd rather pay $40-50 for a well-rated 720p or 1080p web cam than risk wasting time on a cheap knockoff.

Buy expensive webcam for Poloniex, that they can use my data. No, they will update their poor ID processing. But without me anyway. I left poloniex and withdrew all my funds already.

At least people will still be able to withdraw without having to verify first. There will be people with coins there who don't hear the news until after the deadline, and don't want to verify.

Poloniex will update ID procedure, so you maybe can use a smartphone, once, ID is needed.
But I would be very careful before providing my ID to third party.
I regret their step. Poloniex was doing fine the last weeks. They should pay more attention to their customers.

I think the US gov is tightening up bitcoin exchange regulations and forcing them all to require ID. Bittrex did it, and now poloniex is doing it. They probably don't have any choice.

I am not sure about this, because they don't provide fiat exchange. Bitfinex only demand ID from their customers, when they also trade with fiat, but Bitfinex is from Hong Kong. Can't nevertheless imagine, that US gov also looks over crypto platforms without fiat-exchange. But maybe they plan to implement also this feature. The problem they will have, to get trust from customers, with such poor support.

Although coindesk speculates it's to meet regulatory requirements I'm not aware of specific regulations requiring exchanges to implement KYC.

Announced on Dec. 27, U.S.-based exchange service Poloniex revealed it will soon disable all legacy accounts, that is unless these users complete the same verification process as its newer account users who must complete know-your-customer (KYC) due diligence. The exchange said a deadline for identification verification will be released within the first quarter of 2018.

Stepping back, the requirement is perhaps the latest move by the exchange to meet regulatory compliance

What's this new requirement of Poloniex and for what? The exchange doesn't even trade in fiat currencies and the number of cryptos listed there are the least. Not that they will give any benefit to users but they are now imposing such rules which make no sense. Asking for ID and making one use a webcam is just ridiculous. I have an account with my local exchanges and they verified me without any issues (nothing such absurd was asked of us). And a deadline on top of that?

I take it you are not up with the recent change in US tax laws.
Every crypto trade has to be reported for tax in the US, nothing to do with fiat.

In short, you are mad if you use a US crypto exchange, the police state wants to watch you.
